Following Juneteenth Day - Milwaukee Sickle Cell Warriors- Wisconsin

One of two gene therapies was recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat sickle cell disease. Casegevy is the name of the gene therapy from CRISPR/Vertex. You may or may not have heard about Casegevy, and you probably have questions about this new treatment option.

Is gene therapy a cure for sickle cell disease?

Gene therapy is a potentially curative therapy. This means that it could act as a cure, but it is too new to say for sure. It causes a big decline in pain episodes, but we need to learn more about long-term impacts and side effects. It is also not a “one-and-done” treatment. The FDA currently recommends 15 years of patient follow up.

Vertex seeks to identify opportunities where they can support, empower, learn from and engage with sickle cell warriors to ensure your voices are represented in all that they do.

Enjoy the privilege of engaging with those affected by sickle cell disease (SCD) or beta thalassemia within the community, and have your questions answered by a Vertex patient educator this Thursday.

This is an incredible resource for both individuals living with Sickle Cell, Caregivers and Vertex as one of their goals is to actively listen and learn more about the Sickle Cell community needs- DIRECTLY FROM YOU.
