We all have a role to play: from families and schools to workplaces, public saunas, faith communities and health care systems.

Su***de-related deaths were 4x higher among boys / men. We know sauna can help everyone, and especially men, connect.

When people feel connected, valued, and supported, they are more likely to seek help. And when communities come together around a shared commitment to prevention, lives are saved.

We’ve got to break the stigma! It’s not uncommon — 14.3 million adults who struggle with thoughts of su***de. Our co-founder Michael has lived this experience. And you probably know someone too.

A 2026 study published in International Journal of Circumpolar Health cites findings how sauna can make a difference:

Sorry not sorry for sharing some of our “hot takes” about the wild west of an ever-expanding public sauna provider field.

It’s not to preach, but teach. We come in ☮️

1. To take sauna is to steam bathe. Water makes steam. It isn’t optional.

2. We don’t keep the meter running — lose yourself fully, the clock isn’t ticking. Day pass = all day. No time limits.

3. Sauna caretakers are equals: We train our crew to be real, relate, & expect equality with each guest, not be invisible ‘spa attendants’ who must lose their humanity for the sake of a perfect “guest experience”

4. Fancy spas exclude. Public saunas invite. We cater to the very young + our elders because ageism is ugly. All ages 7 days a week. Judgment free.

5. There’s 10+ millennia of tradition here: Bio-hacking, leveling-up and merit badges don’t align.

To call any heated room a sauna is to call a folded-up slice of Wonder Bread a taco. It’s culturally tone-deaf.

Interestingly, doesn’t go for steam in the sauna either! Thankfully one on this list is lifting the spirits of the löyly, since 1978, Portland’s O.G. bathhouse:

Guests at SaunaGlo are highly encouraged to go to town with the steam — we provide a huge ladle, a 5 gallon basin of water that’s always full, and over 500 pounds of stones surrounding our dual heaters.

Real sauna requires the freedom for folks to bathe in the moisture at-will. It’s a softer steam that should always cradle and caress, never sting.

🇫🇮 The term in Finland: Lämpömassa, which is the Finnish word translating to “heat mass” and relates to the thermal capacity of the sauna stove and the characteristics of how a high-fidelity sauna provides a pleasing steam experience with depth and enveloping, fresh air flow rather than a knockoff ‘sauna’ that stifles and stings.
