🫵 You have the power to direct public funding

The scenic Willamette River is a vital public cold plunge to cherish, protect and promote.

Please unite with us to support the proposal:
A new SAFE & ACCESSIBLE swimming spot for all ages and ability levels at Milwaukie Bay Park across from SaunaGlo.

The new Voter’s Choice Grant Program is a “participatory” democracy.

The official voting for ***Nature in Neighborhoods*** takes place online, and it’s open now until June 15th 🗓️

Find the link in our bio!

Anyone over the age of 10 who lives in the Portland Metro area is eligible to submit their own Voters Choice ballot at the Metro Agency website.

Presently the park at Milwaukie Bay offers a single option for accessible water entry point — a boat launching ramp.

No one wants a tragic injury or death.

It’s commonplace to see kids swimming near boat propellers, and it’s commonplace to see reckless boating.

Further, urban swimming isn’t just about recreation. It’s about public health, community connection, and environmental stewardship.

According to the Alliance swimmable waterways promote physical and mental wellbeing, climate resilience, and ecological awareness. They also help reclaim urban rivers as shared civic spaces, fostering a deeper connection between people and nature.

Further, cities around the world have seen major economic boosts from investing in swimmable urban spaces. A swimming area at Milwaukie Bay Park would attract families, visitors, and water enthusiasts — bringing more foot traffic to downtown shops, cafes, and events.

This project also serves as a catalyst:

This first step would realize a gradual-slope sidewalk leading down to a water entry point. It’s a low-grade ADA accessible plan and would offer predictable footing for bare feet rather than rocks. The vision also includes swim buoys to signal a no-wake zone to boaters.

A follow-up step then could realize a bonafide floating swimmer’s platform and kayak launch dock (great for paddleboarders too!)

Let’s continue to manifest our dreams with optimism and determination, working in unity for good!

We’re rowing together for Mother Earth! We celebrate our plant for Earth Day 2026 with a big update:

SaunaGlo founders Katie and Michael recently partnered with the City of Milwaukie to jack-hammer away 128 square feet of “concrete jungle” on our block downtown for an urban re-greening project.

This brings more than 100 new native plants and 4(!) street trees to our sidewalk in downtown. 🎉

Why distance nature from everyday life?

Excessive pavement and sparse tree canopy cause “heat islands” in urban areas as pavement absorbs and re-emits solar heat, harming insects, flora and fauna.

Also, a mighty thank you to the crew and

Climate change requires a radical shift: Remember that 116ºF record high temperate “heat dome” of 2021? 🥵

A real wake-up call to protect the planet.

SaunaGlo is proud to invest in a “collector corridor” for the Pollinator Pathway building off the work of countless community volunteers in our neighborhood:

Rotary Club
Milwaukie Garden Club

The City of Milwaukie

Thanks for lighting the way! 🕯️

As so, we’re called to remove invasive weeds and non-natives in order to plant corridors with drought-tolerant native grasses, flowers, shrubs, vines and trees.

So, what the heck is a Pollinator Pathway?

“A public or private corridor of native plants that provide nutrition and habitat for pollinators.”

Butterflies, Lady Bugs, Bumble Bees, Birds, and Bats too will love us for this work! 🪻🦋🐦‍⬛🐞🦇🐝

We should love them back: 1 out of every 3 bites of food you eat is thanks to pollinator creatures. Sadly, pollinator populations are in decline due to habitat loss.

Environmentalism is in our own best interest!

Our Main Street “Insect Highway” helped earn Bee City USA certification to encourage pollinator conservation.

A big thank you to Sauvie Island Natives nursery 🙏 and Lisa Gunion-Rinker

If you feel inspired, join up on Saturday 4/25 at 9:30am for a big volunteer event to clean-up downtown to celebrate Earth Day 2026!

Think globally. Act locally.
