I think being a hairstylist while grieving has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I love my job deeply. I love sharing life with my clients, hearing their stories, celebrating their highs, and sitting with them through their heartbreak too. That connection is one of the most special parts of this career. Making people feel beautiful while they’re carrying heavy things is such an honor.

But some days, it’s exhausting having to relive your own pain while trying to show up for everyone else. It’s been 84 days since my separation, and somehow coming to work has also been the brightest part of my day.

People keep telling me I’m handling everything so well. What they don’t see are the hours spent crying until I can’t breathe, the ache in my chest, or how physically painful heartbreak can feel.

And yet, underneath all of it, there’s also relief. Grief and peace existing at the same time is such a confusing thing. I’m heartbroken that my marriage is ending, but I also know better things are ahead of me.

For now, I’m just taking it one appointment, one day, one little piece of healing at a time.
