After spending the last 10 days in Reno, Nevada, I’m finally back home and feeling grateful for the memories made along the way.

The main reason for the trip was helping my friend’s daughter, Krysta, prepare for her wedding. From tying up last-minute details and assisting with planning to setting up for the big day and celebrating alongside family and friends, it was a beautiful and memorable experience that I’ll always cherish.

One of the exciting highlights of the trip was reconnecting with my very first supervisor, Nancy Sanchez. Nancy and I served together in the Nevada Army National Guard, and this was the first time we’d seen each other since 2008. It was incredible to catch up, reminisce, and realize that some friendships can pick right back up where they left off. I only wish we had more time to visit together.

I stayed on Alicia’s beautiful 18-acre farm in Fallon, Nevada, teaching her how to make cold process soap using fresh goat milk. She has all kinds of goats, chickens, geese, sheep, and a pig. Sharing the art and science of soapmaking with someone eager to learn is one of my favorite things to do, and there was something special about creating handcrafted soap surrounded by the peaceful beauty of farm life. As her best friend, I was honored to be the one to teach her

While I may have been away from the workshop, this trip was a reminder that some of life’s greatest joys come from family, friendship, and sharing knowledge with others.
