Torticollis is a condition where a baby’s head tilts or turns to one side more than the other. It’s usually caused by a tight muscle on one side of the neck. Plagiocephaly is a condition where the shape of a baby’s head or face is asymmetrical. It’s also known as flat head syndrome. Torticollis can lead to plagiocephaly because a baby’s preference to look in one direction can cause the head to flatten on that side. This happens because gravity pulls unevenly on the tilted head. Interventions include correcting muscle imbalances, facilitating developmental milestones and orthotics to correct the asymmetries of the skull.
