We provide cash based physical therapy, strength training, recovery services with the goal of building more resilient humans!

Exercise & Rehab is adaptable and modifiable to fit every BODY

COME FIND YOUR GRIT!

This is how we start our weekends here at GRIT!
A full gym
Some solid work
and of course the sweetest gym pup around

Let me tell you a little bit about my small, private, speciality gym/clinic

I take care of a range of suspects from injured strength athletes to people who feel like they need extra help strength training around a diagnosis, injury or other medical issue and everything in between! My background as a Physical Therapist puts me in a unique position to understand your injuries and your sports and build a strength program to meet YOUR individual needs.

BECAUSE STRENGTH IS FOR EVERYONE

and every exercise is modifiable to your ability whether that’s post surgery or a competitive athlete

On this particular Friday We’ve got a nice example of a range of strong humans working out independently

✔️an 18 year old athlete starting her college lacrosse strength training program
✔️A breast cancer survivor working to restore shoulder range of motion and strength
✔️A seasoned strength athlete recovering from foot surgery who refuses to stay home and rest
✔️A dentist who’s tried everything else to reduce his back pain and is instead working to strengthen his back
✔️A lovely lady also with a history of back pain who wanted to get back into strength training and didn’t know where to start
✔️A fine gentleman in his 70’s trying to reduce his A1C and strengthen his knees enough to have knee surgery

I also see clients 1 on 1. And in fact, each of these fine humans started with 1-on-1 supervision of some kind so I could build a program especially for them

Got kiddos? Bring ‘em in.
Love watching them watch you grow

Not sure if its right for you? Come on in for a free consultation and even a few free sessions to see if its for you

Ive got your back (and shoulder)

Building resilience is critical

In injury prevention, injury risk reduction, rehab and strength training

Learn from failure and adapt as needed

A common thing you’ll hear in the strength & rehab community is “progress isn’t linear”

This is true in life as well
No matter how hard we try, how much we work and how much effort we put in, there will always be ups and downs

Most of us will have re-occurrences of our pain
All of us are faces with obstacles (adversities or assaults)

Why not become as resilient as possible to be able to bounce back quicker and become harder to kill?

I never would have tried that
But I just went for it
And I’m still standing

🟢My favorite job is giving people the freedom to move

🟢I’m just here giving you the green light to experiment with movement . After so many have told you you couldn’t, shouldn’t, or won’t be able to do that again

Back pain is complicated

But don’t ever forget that we are not as fragile as they told us we are

When I chose GRIT for my business, I hadn’t spent a lot of time researching its meaning. The more I looked though, the more I realized it was perfect. This week I will start to introduce you to GRIT, what it means and what I can do for you!

What is GRIT? The definition that I fell in love with is this one: Perseverance of effort combined with the passion for a particular LONG TERM goal or end state. This perseverance of effort promotes the overcoming of obstacles or challenges that lie on the path to accomplishment and serves as the driving force in ACHIEVEMENT REALIZATION.

It can be applied to just about any aspect of our lives: our relationships, our education and career, raising our children, saving up for something. It’s having the tenacity to stay on course even through the difficult times - this is when we grow!

Now if we look at rehab and lifting, both are very similar in the fact that there are no easy paths, no quick fixes, no one single cue, exercise, etc that will be the magic. The magic lies in the GRIT: the persistence, passion, tenacity, resilience, consistency. It is the achievement of the LONG TERM GOAL. The one you see on the top of the mountain, out in the distance. You know there will be ups and downs, improvement is not linear, and failure is an important part of the process - because overcoming that failure is what makes the success so damn meaningful.

These long term goals are different from the short term ones we set to keep us interested and motivated. The short term goals take determination. Keep your head down, mouth shut and do the work. Like passing a test or getting the bar back in your hands after an injury. It's the long term goals that take perseverance. You have to be adaptable yet remain focused at the same time. The difference for me is like: Short term goals “heck yeah, I got that!” vs long term goals “that's probably gonna suck but I’m in.” In the end I love the work. The every day consistent work and the outcome from that work.

What does GRIT mean to you?

HARDEST WORKER IN THE ROOM
Coach “whoa that’s an intense choice”
Suzi “you said pick up the heaviest thing we could”
Coach “I did write that (after checking later)”
Suzi “I don’t want to waste my Friday” 😂🫶🏼💪🏼

Suzi has been coming to my Barbells with Friends class for almost a year. She’s an OG, been here from the start

But she’s been strength training for a long time

She understands how important and empowering strength is and she doesn’t understand how you don’t know that too

She teaches when I can’t
She recruits friends and family to come in with her
She pushes and inspires those around her
She is a constant reminder of why I do what I do and why I love it so much!!
She’s also one of the few I’d call if I had to move a body in the middle of the night 😂🤫

Come join Suzi

As much as I didn’t plan on running women’s classes, cause strength is for EVERYONE, I do know how important it is to feel comfortable, safe and empowered in your environment

If you’ve got something holding you back
A barrier you can’t get through
An injury that keeps you from starting or getting back at it
Just reach out, let’s work through it together

But for now let’s celebrate Suzi, her strength, determination and friendship! 🫶🏼

✅ set up and re-rack
✅gaze or the importance of eye / neck position
✅ bar path & speed
✅ breathing and bracing
✅ modifying exercises to meet your needs, body size, limb length, etc
✅ how to create the necessary tension or rigidity to move more efficiently

Barbells with Friends clients get:
🔵 a solid program to follow
🔵 2 or 3 days a week depending on your schedule
🔵 Am and pm sessions available
🔵 Simple and effective in an un-intimidating atmosphere
🔵 Access to all the equipment needed
🔵 flexible
🔵 someone to watch the way they lift, provide instruction, and spotting
🔵 a skilled professional to walk you through rehabbing an injury if you happen to get one or have one to start out with

When I originally chose GRIT I did not intend it to be an acronym, although that is what it became. All the words, for me, really define the different aspects of GRIT. As I continue to introduce myself we are gonna talk a little but about goals.

One of the top benefits of a cash based PT practice is that YOU get to define your own plan of care. You have an expert guide to help (me) but where else in the medical world do you get so much input into not only what your goals are but how to achieve them.

YOUR goals are what defines your plan of care.

We can design a training/rehab program to get you back to where you want to be and more or if you already have a program we can supplement some of the work you are doing with exercises hand picked for you.

Not injured (yay) and just want to be as strong as you can be? I can do that too! I spend my time split between barbell based strength training and keeping injured humans moving and training while they rehab. Often they both blend together so give me a shout if you are not sure what direction to go.

We talked yesterday about short term vs long term goals. Both are extremely important. It can get a little tedious to continually reach for those long term goals without some small little wins along the way, so let’s get started now!

MY goal, my mission, my purpose is to help you learn to be as independent as possible by teaching you to self asses and change the way you respond to minor or major injuries and facilitate healing as soon as you notice something is up.
