Think of this as less of a routine overhaul and more of a seasonal tune-up.

In the salon, I’m focused on:

Getting the scalp actually clean (not just 'just washed' clean). Metals and contaminates from regional water sources can linger. Even when you think your hair and scalp are 'clean', these elements can be effecting the quality of your hair and the condition of your scalp. I use a Metal Detox Shampoo on nearly every client to remove these potential hazards. Check it out here:

Gentle reminder: what you put in your body affects your hair and your skin, too!

Stimulating circulation through intentional touch is a big part of balancing oil production and activating the follicle. Trusted sources can be hard to find in this Age of Influencers. Noticing shifts of oil, dryness and sensitivity is important info to have about your hair and scalp so that effective adjustments can be made to your treatment.

At home, keep it simple:

Clarify when things start to feel heavy or dull (especially if dry shampoo is in rotation). Weekly clarifying is a healthy standard to set. Most clarifying shampoos are color safe so they won't compromise the lucidity of your color. Acure Curiously Clarifying Shampoo is great for all hair types and is gentle yet effective on the scalp. Its about $10 which goes to show that a product doesn't have to be pricey to offer the desired results!

Pro tips that can change your life:

Wash consistently based on your lifestyle. Do you workout everyday? Hot yoga? Hair up? Sun exposure? All of these factors can create vulnerability. When your hair is wet or damp, its weaker. Tension form ponytails and headbands may exacerbate any borderline issues. Daily washers need a more delicate approach. Try a gentle everyday shampoo like the Roz Foundation Shampoo (stocked at n**e in Laguna Beach) or the Davines Dede Shampoo (on the shelf at Gold & Braid Costa Mesa). Google these for more info.

Don’t overcomplicate it. There's a lot of chatter out there about products for all kinds of things. If you're following any health, beauty or wellness discussions on social media platforms, be sure the source has the same kind of hair as you, and shares similar concerns. This will ensure you don't exacerbate any existing issues by creating new ones with the wrong products. Your scalp likes rhythm more than extremes.

Brush your hair each night. Its important to do when the hair and scalp can 'rest' afterwards. Manipulating your scalp when your hair has dried can move important oils through the rest of your hair and alleviate build-up, reduce mild discomfort and target important nerve endings on the top of your head that send messages to your nervous system to relax. Use a brush that has plastic points and soft, fuzzy bristles. Use ample pressure to gently move from scalp to ends, front to back, side to side. It’s low effort, a little grounding, and surprisingly effective over time. I use this one on everyone, including myself!

Hello Beautiful Friends!

I wanted to share a personal update with you. I’m back in school, working toward my Master’s degree in Counseling. Continuing my education has been such a rewarding experience, and I’m grateful for your support as I balance this exciting new chapter with my creative work behind the chair.

Don't Fall For It

Scrolling...scrolling...scrolling and *boom* there it is! The perfect styling tool, the perfect blow dryer, the perfect hair color, the perfect you. More and more y'all are bringing me some wierd-ass stuff you've seen on social media platforms that promises to be the best for you. But, is it?

Everyone's an Expert

Finding a trusted source
It's really fun to peruse pages and pages of home, beauty and health content. People are so entertaining and captivating to watch! Some of my favorite beauty resources are and . I would invite you to dive deeper into who is giving you this information and how they are qualified in this field before you get too attached. Literally anyone can create an account and purport to know everything about anything without regulation or verification.

Is this for my type of hair?
There is some gorgeous hair out there! I usually see inspo pix during consultations that are incredible looking. But, are they realistic for what your hair is like? And are they 'real' at all? There's so much AI hair out there which is creative and cool but not of this world and you are of this world. Realtalk: no alien-chatbot-smooth-shiny-plastic-otherworldly-moonlit-colored-lioness-mermaid hair for us mortals. Sorry!

Before you buy
I am a self-professed Product W***e. I would challenge you to find another person who has had more products in their medicine cabinet, in their shower or stashed in their handbag (anyone need a Tide pen and/or instant matcha latte packet?) than I. From this professional perch I would like to caution you about adding things to your cart.

Before you click the BUY NOW button, ask yourself these three questions:

~ How does this solve my problem/address my need?
~ Will this product improve my life?
~ Does this product align with my budget?

Ok, I have to add a fourth:

~ Will this fit under my sink?

Shopping Shame
There is is absolutely no shame in shopping with curiosity, joy and desire. And I love hearing about the wacky stuff out there so feel free to share your shops with me! Sometimes the perfect product for exactly what you need exists (um, hello Wet Brush). I would encourage you as your stylist and as someone who is informed to use discernment when you're ready to make beauty brand purchases. Do a little R+D into the origins of the product (ingredients, founders' values) the environmental impact (sometimes a higher priced option is better because its concentrated and less consumption is required, including plastic bottles and other packaging that can create needless waste) and the user reviews.

What's The Plan, Stan?

Summer has officially arrived! And while sunshine, travel, and spontaneous plans are welcome, the effects they can have on your hair are not.

Here's some ideas for a No Bummer Summer

Refresh your cut so it grows out gracefully between trips and events
There are some really weird ideas out there about haircuts. I heard just yesterday that a client was told (by a hairdresser!) that your hair will grow if you cut it more often. In what wacky world will your hair be longer when you cut it off? On average, the hair on your head grows about 1/2" per month. So, if you're growing it, plan on seeing that six inches you're hoping for in about a year. The best approach is to maintain the shape. A shape that's flattering for each step of the way makes the journey fun.

Revive your color ~ sun, salt, and chlorine can dull even the best shades
Avoid refreshing your color before a trip where you may find yourself in the sun or the sea. Altitude and drier climates can also change your hair needs. You may need a UV protectant and some extra moisture. Consider picking up a few travel-sized items to compliment your regular routine. DM me for recs!

Plan ahead for weddings, vacations, and all the last-minute plans that somehow aren’t so last-minute
You can only be ahead of the game to some degree. It seems like there's always something unexpected expecting you to be prepared. But don't sweat it! I'm here for those last-minute needs. In fact, I offer Express Services that will have you in and out of the salon in 30 minutes.

So Glad You Were Born

I got it from my mama: my milky skin, my commitment to service and my humming habit. :) All great things and qualities unique to my DNA and life experiences. Everywhere we look, we see humans and they came from somewhere - someone who carried them in their insides for months and generally, a person who took the time to foster growth.

Here she is in her 20's looking like the cute California Girl she is. (Mom please don't hate me for posing this :p)

Moms can take many forms

I don't have kids
Sadly, I was never able to conceive but, many humans in my life have experienced a sense of mother energy within our relationship. I'm so grateful for this! In my chair, I like to think of myself as your Hair Mom. I cannot take credit for this title because someone special graciously bestowed it upon me. Caring for your hair, rubbing your head and giving you (hair) advice seem pretty motherly to me, n'est pas?

Caring
How does it feel to be cared for? Personally, I love it! I also love caring for you and your hair. Self care is also important to me and its important to me that you get some of that. Do you consider getting your hair done a self care treat or necessity? Maybe both?

Showing you care
Whomever your mother figure is right now, let's take a moment to celebrate them. May is nationally the month to bring mom into the spotlight. Change Isn't Always Good
Sometimes the pressure to change can be anxiety inducing. Is everyone around me moving on and letting go while I'm here in the same place? Its possible. What is also possible is your path to change could look different. Maybe a change for you would be slowing down and moving at your own pace to process your ideas and goals in a way that feels authentic to you.

A Personal Story
What helps me feel renewed is my desire to usher the magic I see on the inside of a person out into the light and reveal itself on their physical body. My daily inspo is the alchemy of transformation on sometimes the smallest scale. I want to share with you my new haircut and what it means to me...

My hair journey has been a doozy in the last few years. I had chemo and while the treatment I received did not cause hair loss, the hair that grew within that time was tainted by bedrest, poor nutrition and general bad vibes.

When you realize your hair grows approximately 1/2 an inch per month, you can do the hairdresser math and see the opportunity to shed and release memories and experiences which may have occurred during those months. These inches may no longer serve you.

A haircut can be a life changing experience. I've witnessed it first hand (literally with my shears in hand!). However you choose to wear your hair know that it holds power. It is a literal extension of you right now, made of your DNA which archives your past and harvests your future.

I Feel Good
Recently I've discovered my number one joy maker is Purpose. I mean *duh* but to my credit, I've moved through life with this super power barely recognizing it. Could this be part of the problem? Our efforts and talents often go unrecognized, making them seem like ordinary obligations when they are magic.

I'm Learning
Discovery also brings me joy and learning makes me feel empowered. To learn is to be curious and foster imagination which can also lead to empathy and connection. Imagine what a wonderful life we could live if we felt more connected (and not exclusively the scrolling kind mmmkkkkayyy).

I'm Connecting
The part I love most about having you in my chair is the connection we create between us. I feel the energy of your personality through the act of touching your hair, listening to your stories and seeing you light up the room when you love your new hair. I like to imagine you go on out there irl and beam with the undeniable power you possess. Mission accomplished!

How's your new year so far?

Do you like to set goals and make resolutions? Are you more of a go with the flow kinda person?

Personally, I like to do a little bit of both.

First, I like to acknowledge my successes and accomplishments. Then I look back to see what I could have done better, what I could have handled in a different way.
Lastly, I do my very best to LET THE F GO.

So What's Next?

What I do know is that with change and challenge, there is growth.

Growth: The Mystery
What is the purpose of this?
My take is that everything grows in order to be an active part of this world. It creates a sense of belonging to those around us, the plants and trees, animals and insects and our bodies.

This month is an opportunity for the beginning of renewal and growth.
We can set the tone for the new year with our thoughts and actions. Think about how your hair grows about 1/2 an inch a month.
