Not all exfoliation is created equal. Let’s break down the basics.

Chemical exfoliation, my personal go to for most skin types, uses AHAs, BHAs, or enzymes to gently dissolve dead skin cell buildup. Think of it like a smart, even resurface with no scrubbing required.

Physical exfoliation relies on granular textures such as scrubs, brushes, or cloths to manually slough off dead skin. This can work well for the body or for occasional use, but on the face it can easily overdo things if you are not careful.

Why I lean toward chemical exfoliation for most faces: it is more uniform, less irritating long term, and works with your skin’s natural turnover. Plus, there is no risk of over scrubbing or micro tears. That said, gentle physical exfoliation like a soft washcloth definitely has its place, too.
