• Harriet Tubman was never captured, and never lost a single person she guided to freedom on the Underground Railroad.
• She made 13+ rescue missions, leading an estimated 70 enslaved people to freedom—including family members.
• Tubman suffered from narcolepsy and seizures due to a severe head injury caused by an enslaver—but still carried out dangerous missions.
• She used coded spiritual songs as signals to communicate when it was safe or unsafe to travel.
• During the Civil War, she became the first woman to lead a U.S. military combat operation (the Combahee River Raid), freeing over 700 enslaved people in one night.
• She worked as a Union spy and scout, gathering intelligence behind enemy lines.
• Despite her service, she wasn’t properly paid by the U.S. government for years.
• Later in life, she became a strong advocate for women’s suffrage, working alongside leaders like Susan B. Anthony.
• She donated land to create a home for elderly and formerly enslaved Black Americans, where she eventually lived herself.
• Harriet Tubman believed her mission was divinely guided, saying she spoke directly to God for direction.
