Can you get extensions if your hair is short?? Yes!

But there are a few things to consider:

The length shouldn’t be very long because if your hair is short that means you’ll need ALOT of layers to blend.

Your extensions will need to sit very high on your head to bring length forward around your face.

Your hair should at least hit the top of your ears to hide weft extensions properly.

Be prepared to wear 3-4 rows of extensions.

Wefts aren’t your only option. Ktips can be incorporated in areas where wefts can’t go.

Not to be the bearer of bad news buut… some habits can shorten the life of your extensions and these are just a few. 😭

🥴 AIRDRYING 😫

It’s not inherently bad but certain airdrying habits can lead you to complications.

The cuticle naturally swells when it’s wet and soaks up water like a sponge. 🧽

Extension hair has been highly processed and stripped especially blondes. This causes extensions to become highly porous. It’s also why it takes forever to dry.

If you don’t blowdry the top of your wefts they can hold onto moisture leading to a yeast buildup on the scalp and a mildew issue where all the wefts are sewn together😳

Also, if you’re airdrying but wrap your extensions in any kind of bun you can run the risk of the extensions tangling with your hair and itself which can lead to mega knots. It may not happen the first time but at some point it can so it’s best to air dry with the hair down. 🫠

Always finish with a blowdry on the top of the rows especially before bed. Never sleep with damp extensions. 😴

🏊‍♂️POOL AND OCEAN 🤿

The ocean has salt which can dry out your extensions extremely and can cause dryness, matting and tangling. 🌊

Furthermore, wearing braids or buns can also lead to tangling and matting so bubble braids are best for water time. They keep the hair in one straight position.

Always wet hair before and load up in leave in or regular conditioner. This helps to take up molecule space in the hair so the water can’t pe*****te as much. 🤙🏼

You are still susceptible to the affects of chlorine and saltwater so be sure to rinse and shampoo immediately after water time.

No matter what, both activities will shorten the extension life a bit even if you take all the precautions. Extensions might thin out a bit or shorten quicker.

Always proceed with caution. ⚠️

Avoid these like the plague- sulfates and alcohol will breakdown and dry out extension ends fast.

If your extensions are shortening up within months, check your ingredients.

Stay away from hairsprays and aerosols on extension ends, smoothing products with alcohol, and shampoos with sulfates.

To be extra sure your extensions stay in good shape coat the ends in a bit of conditioner before shampooing your scalp.

if you’re naturally greasy, and you must use sulfates on your scalp wrap your extensions in a bun at the base of your neck and just shampoo, the top of your head above the Extensions.
