Met a new friend on our family vacation last week… meet Rica.

It was our first cruise, and I’ll admit—I was a little out of my comfort zone. But every morning, Rica greeted me with a bright smile and a cheerful “Good morning, Sir Bob.” Her energy was genuine and contagious.

When my son Gavin got sick on the second day, Rica began leaving creative towel animals in our room to cheer him up. It became something we looked forward to every day—her small, thoughtful gesture made a big difference.

As the week went on, I learned more about Rica. She lives in the Philippines and works on the ship for seven months out of the year, often putting in 12–16 hour days. I also learned about her family life and some of the challenges she faces back home. Despite it all, she shows up every day with kindness, pride, and positivity.

Rica reminded me that to be of service to others is the greatest gift. No matter how I’m feeling, my mission is to serve you—my customer—with style, grace, a smile, and the right attitude… just like Rica.

I left that ship feeling humbled and incredibly grateful—not just for the vacation, but for the reminder of what really matters.
