For the last 18 months I was doing a modified side plank with a bent knee until last week! For the longest time I hadn't felt strong enough to push up all the way... Finally, it got to the point where I don't know if it was strength or guts or a combination of both, but I pushed off the floor without my knee bent and did it!

This is still a work in progress, but it's totally making me feel a sense of accomplishment. I have especially tight hamstrings, so sometimes I feel super frustrated in class since I'm not as bendy as others and my poses look different...

If you need it-Let this be a sign to you:

Small changes create big results.
Keep trying and you'll be amazed.
Take the leap and just GO... whatever you're afraid of doing - do it!
You're stronger than you think
Don't give up! It takes time, patience and discipline to build strength
Life is all about practicing
Just when you think you can't, try again!
You are your hardest critic
Stop giving a s**t about what everyone else thinks
You're never too "old" to try something new

Love, Alyssa

Yo I am so tired of being tired, aren't you?

…but are you though?

If you find yourself relating to several of these, it may be worth considering whether your nervous system has been under a lot of stress—or carrying more load than you realize.

Our bodies can hold onto patterns of tension, guarding and heightened alertness long after a stressful experience has passed. So, it’s possible that something you thought you left behind 20 years ago may still be influencing how your body responds today.

If a few of these slides feel a little too much like home, maybe your body is asking for more support, rest and regulation.

“Fine” and “regulated” aren’t always the same thing.
Maybe it’s time to listen to what your body has been trying to tell you. 🤍

Over the next few posts, I’m going to share some of my favorite ways to help the body feel a little safer, softer and more supported. Stay tuned...

I'm tired of my RBF so I'm just gonna start smiling more... 😊

Physically: Smiling activates the muscles that lift the cheeks which will then naturally develop more cheekbone definition & gives the face a more lifted appearance

Psychologically: Facial-feedback research suggests deliberately forming a smile can create a small but measurable increase in positive emotion.

Physiologically: Smiling can sometimes create a shift toward a calmer state.

Socially: Smiling totally changes how other people respond to you! People tend to perceive a smiling face as warmer & often more approachable.

Energetically: A smile may be linked to changing the energy in and around you~

Never medical advice here, just fun stuff from a Massage Therapist/Occupational Therapy Assistant 😉 ☀️
