Before Liesl’s appointment, we started with a FaceTime consultation to talk through her goals: grey blending, correcting a few problem areas, and figuring out the best direction for her hair.

Consultations are such an important part of the process because beautiful results start with a plan. Especially when you know you want a change but you’re not quite sure where to start, that conversation gives us time to talk through your concerns, your maintenance preferences, what’s realistic for your hair, and where we want to go next.

And we did exactly that. ✨

I’ll be sharing Liesl’s actual results later this week, but I couldn’t wait to share these words.

Holiday hair season always sneaks up faster than we think 🎄✨

Now’s the time to look ahead at parties, events, family plans, and all the things that fill up your calendar this time of year.

My online schedule stays live 6 weeks at a time, but if you’re coming in over the next few weeks, I’ll be working on pre-booking you through the end of the year so we can grab your preferred dates and times. 🤍

A little planning now = one less thing to think about later.

Grey transformations come in so many forms.

Sometimes it’s growing out old color and cutting those ends away. Sometimes it’s going lighter gradually, highlighting to blend, switching to demi color for a softer grow-out, adding lowlights for more “pepper,” or even doing a major color correction.

When Ami and I consulted, she brought some great inspiration photos. We talked through what she liked and didn’t like and realized she didn’t want to be fully grey.

She wanted to look a little grey, and she missed the lighter brown she once had.

She had already grown out several inches of natural grey, but she wasn’t loving that shade against her skin. So instead of choosing between covering it all or going completely grey, we created another option.

We also knew we didn’t want to use lightener. Before coloring, I did a Malibu Crystal Gel treatment to remove buildup and give us a cleaner canvas.

Then I used an extremely heavy lowlight with a demi-permanent formula for a softer grow-out, while intentionally leaving out just the right amount of her natural grey.

A sprinkle of grey, if you will. 🤍

She liked a slightly darker inspiration shade, but I wanted her result to feel a little lighter and warmer against her skin.

And it was chef’s kiss. 🤌

Ami has a lot of hair, so this first appointment was longer, but future visits will be much simpler. Think mostly Mini and Partial Dimensional Color appointments, with potentially one Full a year.

From here, we can let a little more grey sprinkle through…or not.

She gets to control the narrative of how grey, or how little grey, she wants to be.

And this is exactly why I believe your hair doesn’t just need an appointment.

It needs a plan.

A plan for where your hair is now, where you want it to go, and how much maintenance feels realistic for you.

Greying gracefully doesn’t have to mean giving up color. It can mean evolving on your own terms while still feeling vibrant and like yourself.

I always welcome consultations so we can look at your current color, natural grey, inspiration photos, and maintenance preferences and build your personal plan together.

Her first highlights for 7th grade ✨

She came in with inspiration that was bright, bold and heavily highlighted.

And while I absolutely understood what she loved about those photos, my job isn’t to just copy an inspo picture. It’s to look at the whole picture.

Her age.
Her natural hair.
Her first experience with color.
Her maintenance schedule.
And what would still look beautiful months from now.

So I told her, trust me.

She wanted bright.
I wanted bright + low maintenance.

We did both. 🤍

I gave her enough lightness to feel like she had a real transformation, while keeping the placement soft, intentional and wearable so she isn’t locked into constant salon visits to keep it looking good.

Especially with a first color service, more is not always better.

Sometimes the best result comes from knowing how far to go, where to stop, and how to give someone the look they want without creating a maintenance commitment they never asked for.

That’s the part of color that matters just as much as the final photo.

Beautiful hair today, and a plan that still makes sense months from now. ✨

Damn… 6 years. 🤍

This memory popped up from 2020, and it’s kind of wild to think about everything that’s happened since.

I’ve moved locations, grown Luxe, taken more continuing education than I can probably count, became an educator, and somehow continue to love what I do more and more every year.

One of the best parts has been the incredible people I’ve met in this industry along the way — people who have become real friends, who share knowledge, support one another, and genuinely cheer each other on. There’s something really special about being surrounded by people who want to see each other win.

And most importantly… my clients. 🥹

I truly have the BEST clients in the world. So many of you have been with me through different salons, different locations, different chapters of life — and I’ve been blessed with so many amazing new faces along the way too.

Six years of Luxe wouldn’t exist without all of you trusting me, supporting me, referring your friends and family, and continuing to sit in my chair.

Couldn’t do it without you. 🖤

And just wait until you see the changes happening in the suite… because apparently a new year calls for a little new look too. 👀✨

She was a little overdue for her appointment, wasn’t going to be back in my chair until September, and then had a last-minute hair emergency. Unfortunately, I couldn’t squeeze her in — so she reached out with a little temporary plan of her own.

We talked it through, I let her know it would be okay, and because it wasn’t permanent, we could make any adjustments we needed to when I see her next.

And then she called me a skilled hair fairy. 🪄😂

But what I really love about this exchange is the trust behind it.

I get it — life lifes. Schedules change, things come up, and sometimes we need to pivot. I’d much rather you ask me, talk it through with me, and let’s figure out the best plan for your hair together.

Great hair isn’t about everything going perfectly all the time. Sometimes it’s simply having a plan…and knowing your hair fairy has a magic wand waiting when you get back. ✨🖤
