Hi, everyone. Please read this if, you have any kind of nail enhancement or plan to have any type of nail services.

Below are pictures of what nail techs call Greenies! It is not a nail fungus or a mold infection. It is actually a bacterial infection, caused by a very common bacteria called, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, that thrives in wet, moist conditions.

It doesn't matter if it's acrylic, dip powder, gel polish, gel x, etc.. if there are lifts underneath the enhancement, water will get trapped between your nails and the enhancement and you will get a Greenie. It's not your fault or your nail techs fault. It's something that comes with the territory, especially for the immuno compromised and those who are in a lot of water, like gardeners and wives who do dishes.

Fortunately, Greenies can be easily treated. We just have to remove the condition that allows the bacteria to grow. Usually the removal of the enhancement, clean up of the infected nail and keeping the nail plate dry, will do the job. Your nail will still be stained, but fortunately it will just grow out.

Whatever you do, don't keep your enhancement on! It will get worse and ruin your otherwise healthy nails. Let your nail tech know and schedule a removal.
