You can get the best wax in the world, but if you’re not taking care of your skin between appointments, you’re making my job and your wax harder than it needs to be.

Look closely at the skin after that strip comes off. That white, dry appearance is dehydration, and dehydrated skin can hold onto hair like glue.

That means the hair doesn’t release as easily, which can lead to broken hairs, more irritation and a wax that feels a whole lot spicier than it needs to. 👀

But there’s another reason I’m always preaching hydration.

Dehydrated skin doesn’t function at its best. It can look dull, rough and crepey, and those fine lines become much more noticeable. If beautiful, healthy skin is the goal, we have to take care of ALL of it, not just the skin on our face.

So yes, come see me and get smooth. 😂 But you’ve got homework too.

Keep your skin hydrated. Moisturize consistently. Use your body oil. Exfoliate properly. Protect your skin and give it what it needs between appointments.

Because waxing removes the hair.

Everyone wants to be bronzed and glowing… until their skin starts peeling off in sheets. ☀️🥓

This week alone I had:
• A client blister after ONLY 5 minutes in a tanning bed
• Another client burn so badly on vacation that I couldn’t complete her body wax because her skin was literally lifting and peeling after 3 wax strips

Let’s myth bust something REAL QUICK:

SPF does NOT stop you from tanning.
It helps protect your skin from BURNING, premature aging, collagen breakdown, pigmentation, inflammation, and long-term damage.

A tan is your skin responding to trauma and trying to defend itself.

Not wearing SPF because you “want color” is like frying bacon on high heat and being shocked when it burns. 🥓

And honestly, I think that says everything.

What started as a Mother’s Day brunch became something much deeper.

Women who were strangers laughed together, cried together, sang together, connected, and poured into one another in ways I never could have imagined.

Some discovered they had mutual family connections.
Some realized they lived in the same neighborhoods.
Some were quietly carrying heavy things and simply needed a safe place to exhale.

At one point during the vision board session, the room broke out into song completely unplanned… and I had to step into the hallway because I became overwhelmed with emotion.

This experience took everything out of me physically, mentally, and emotionally… but I would do it all over again.

Thank you to every woman who trusted me enough to show up with an open heart.

Yesterday reminded me that community, softness, sisterhood, and safe spaces for Black women are still deeply needed.

And based on the conversations before everyone finally went home…

this won’t be the last Skin & Soul Society gathering. 🖤
