Hikers and avid walkers in the Charleston area: knee pain on descents is almost never just a knee problem. πŸ”¬

Downhill loading places high eccentric demand on the quadriceps β€” and when the quads fatigue or the hip stabilizers aren't holding up their end, the knee absorbs forces it's not designed to manage alone.

Two things that help: eccentric step-downs off a low step (3 sets of 10 per leg, slow and controlled) and single-leg balance work to improve hip and knee stability under load.

Building this capacity before a long hike prevents the knee from becoming the weak link on the trail.

Know a hiker dealing with this? Send this their way.

If your knees or lower back are consistently taking load they shouldn't, your hips are likely not pulling their weight. 🎯 Hip strength is the foundation of almost every athletic movement β€” running, hiking, paddleboarding, golf, and everything in between. When the glutes and hip stabilizers are weak, the joints above and below them compensate. Swipe through the three-movement routine our team uses with active patients to build this foundation. Save this and add it to your weekly training before something else has to tell you it's necessary.

Dry needling sounds intense β€” but understanding what it actually does makes it one of the most logical tools in injury recovery. πŸ’‘ It's not about pain relief through relaxation. It's about targeting dysfunctional tissue directly and resetting how that muscle communicates with your nervous system. Swipe to see exactly how it works and who benefits most from it. Save this if you've been curious but weren't sure if it was right for you.

The first 5 minutes after you wake up are one of the best windows for mobility work β€” your body is warm from sleep and your joints benefit from controlled movement before the day's load begins. ⚑ A simple sequence that works for most active adults: cat-cow (10 reps), a spinal rotation in a side-lying position (5 per side), and a standing hip circle (10 per direction). This takes under 5 minutes, costs nothing, and directly supports the kind of movement quality that keeps injuries from accumulating over time. The patients at Patriots Point who do this consistently notice a real difference in how they feel by midday. Save this and try it tomorrow morning.

Physical therapy is not just exercises on a mat β€” it's a comprehensive assessment of how your body moves, where it compensates, and why your injury keeps coming back. 🎯 Dr. Ashton Kirkpatrick holds her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and specializes in return-to-sport rehabilitation, pelvic floor health, TMJ dysfunction, dry needling, and blood flow restriction training. Every PT session at Patriots Point Chiropractic & Physical Therapy starts with a full evaluation β€” because treating symptoms without understanding movement patterns is just guessing. If you've done PT before and felt like it was going through the motions, this is different. Save this post and reach out when you're ready for a real plan.

The athletes who stay in the game longest aren't the ones who recover the fastest β€” they're the ones who prevent the injury in the first place. πŸ’ͺ Regular chiropractic and PT isn't a reactive tool. It's a performance strategy. Swipe through to see exactly what proactive care does for your body that waiting until something hurts never will. Save this if staying active long-term is the goal.

If your first steps out of bed feel like you're walking on broken glass, you already know what plantar fasciitis feels like. πŸ’‘ The morning pain pattern is actually one of the most telling signs of what's happening in the tissue β€” and understanding it changes how you approach recovery. Swipe to learn why it hurts when it does and what actually resolves it. Drop a comment if this is something you've been dealing with β€” you're not alone, and there's a clear path through it.

Wrist and forearm tension is one of those things people tolerate for months before it becomes a real problem β€” and by then, it's harder to resolve. πŸ’‘ Whether you're typing all day, gripping a racket, or pushing through hand positions in yoga or CrossFit, the flexor tendons and forearm muscles take consistent load without much recovery input. A simple daily habit: wrist flexor and extensor stretches held 30 seconds each, followed by gentle wrist circles. These take 2 minutes and protect against the kind of repetitive strain that eventually becomes elbow or wrist tendinitis. What repetitive activity gives your wrists the most grief? Tell us in the comments.
