Wow! I’ve always had good meals here, but this one blew me away! Pork with some kind of fresh passion fruit, OMG the flavors were exploding in my mouth! Well done well done!

I can’t stop thinking about this Back if the Yard Burger from the Plaza at Park Grill in Millennium Park. It has cheese, bacon, fried egg, pastrami, and house sauce. It was so delicious, I will definitely go back for another one. The pastrami was sooooo yummy!

This is borrowed from a fellow nail colleague. No matter where you get your nails done, pay attention.

When nail salons reopen and you see them asking you to wash your hands before your service when they never did before, just know, that was already a state board rule. When they open a new file, buffer and sanding band for you, just know that that was already a state board rule. When they tell you how they are now sanitizing and disinfecting their metal implements, cleaning and disinfecting the pedi spas, disinfecting their tables, your chair, their chair, and wiping down everything on their table, just know that was already a state board rule.

Also, be aware that disinfectants all have a “contact time” that they must stay on the surface and stay wet to effectively kill bacteria, viruses, etc.
contact times vary by product and can be anywhere from 1-10 minutes. Some are premixed and some have to be mixed. They must be mixed EXACTLY as directed to be effective.

Pedicure spa chairs with jets must be cleaned with antibacterial soap and waster, rinsed, filled with waster, disinfectant added to the water and circulated for 10-20 minutes depending on manufacture’s instructions. If you see someone leave the pedi chair and your tech spays it with something in an unlabeled bottle, wipes it down and fills it immediately without the disinfecting step DO NOT put your feet in that tub.

We are required by law to use an EPA approved bactricidal, virucidal, tuberculocidal disinfectant to clean EVERYTHING. Everything we use must be in a labeled container. EVERYTHING. That means liquids, gels, powders, polish, alcohol, acetone, etc.

If you are having dip services done and your tech is dipping your finger in the same jar that everyone else has dipped in, walk out. Dip powders are to be decanted from the original container into an individual container for each client.

When you got upset that you were asked not to touch your phone or eat or drink during your service, it was because it was already a state board rule, not because we were being jerks.

Just remember if these are NEW behaviors for the nail salon, they were NOT compliant in the first place. These are not NEW rules. They were existing rules.

Nail salons are not allowed to reuse wax sticks, paraffin wax, toe separators, flip flops, files, sanding bands, buffers or anything porous that cannot be disinfected.

Some salons have been misleading you by using autoclave bags to put their implements in. You think they’re sterilized because they’re in a bag.
If that bag is not crispy, wrinkled and discolored around the edges, chances are it never saw the inside of an autoclave. The temperature of an autoclave would alter the appearance of the bag.

If you want to know the sanitation rules in their entirety, you can find them on your state board website. Or you can ask your salon. They are required by law to have the board rules posted in the salon.

Yes, you will be seeing some new protocols, but for those of us who were already compliant it won’t be a hardship for us to comply.

Think about the salons you’ve been patronizing and ask yourself if they were doing all they were required to do before Covid. If the answer is no, what makes you think they will comply now?

The new trend of dip powder manicures could be putting your health at risk 02/16/2020

If you’re getting “dip powder” on your nails and your nail tech is dipping your nails directly in the jar, it’s very unsanitary. It doesn’t matter if you washed your hands before getting them dipped, or if they spray you hands with alcohol. Even if they sprinkle the powder on your nails, then put the rest back in the jar, it’s still unsanitary.

As far as autoclaves go, while every nail salon should have one, no state requires them. Only the state of Texas requires salons to sterilize their metal tools, but doesn’t regulate how their sterilized. If they say they sterilize their tools, ask them how they do it and if they say they use an autoclave, ask to see it. Those “UV Sterilzer boxes” do NOT sterilize. Only autoclaves or dry heat will sterilize. Both using very high temperatures.

And yes, pedicure liners should always be new. And even if they’re using a liner, they should still be sanitizing and disinfecting the pedi tub as well.

Tennessee woman says she contracted flesh-eating bacteria from nail salon 09/24/2019

WARNING, pics are pretty grueling. This is why it’s always important to ask salons how they sanitize and disinfect, not just if they do. Saving a few dollars on a mani or pedi if not worth the risks to your health. Just because you’ve never had any problems yet, doesn’t mean you never will.
