I’m a proud Howard University grad (👩🏾‍🎓Class ‘97). The years 1993–1997 strengthen my voice, sharpened my mind, and sealed my pride. On The Yard I learned the history ‘they forgot’ to teach, the power of community, and what it truly means to be Black and proud—loud, brilliant, and unshakeable. From late-night study sessions in the stacks of Founders Library to sunrise laughter in the valley, professors who demanded excellence to friends who became family—Howard taught me “Veritas et Utilitas” (Truth and Service) and I’ve carried that into every room I walk into, including my spa.

So yes, I’m working and reppin’ during Homecoming week—because HU didn’t just give me a degree; it gave me a mission. To serve. To uplift. To build beauty and confidence in my community every single day. When I put on this HU shirt, I’m putting on legacy, possibility, and the echo of every Bison who paved a way.

Yesterday at the Cindy J Expo, I met Dawn Myers, Founder & CEO of —and sis lit a fire under me. 🔥 After her masterclass, I basically ran over to say hi because her story, brilliance, and mission hit me right in the “keep going” button. As a small business owner (and curly hair natural on a grow-out journey😫), I felt seen, inspired, and ready to level up. 🙌🏾

What blew me away? The Mint—her tech-driven styling tool that detangles, conditions, and styles in one pass. It uses gentle heat to help products pe*****te so curls stay hydrated and defined. Translation: less struggle, more juicy, poppin’ coils. 🌀✨ (Type 4 beauties, she made sure we’re front and center. 🙏🏾)

Growing out curly hair can be… a journey 😫 But after meeting Dawn, I’m genuinely excited for what’s to come for mine 👩🏾‍🦱.
