4 reasons why you should use a luffa sponge in place of other sponges?
1. They are completely biodegradable! This is because they come from a plant. YES, they are a vegetable/gourd and grown on a vine. They can be eaten when they are young and small or left to mature and dry to be used as a sponge.
2. They last a long time! Each luffa scrubber can be used for months or even years depending on how much use they get. Just make sure they are allowed to dry out so they do not get moldy.
3. There is no waste, once you are done with your luffa scrubber you can use it on top of the dirt in your potted plants, burn it or toss it into compost. If you throw it into the garbage, that is alright too, because it will break down in the landfill.
4. You can save money by growing your own scrubbers and not having to buy sponges anymore. Yes, you can grow them! Purchase seeds and plant in early spring. They need around 200 days of sunlight to be able to mature and produce the squash.

Did you know these 4 things about luffa sponges?

How cute are these? Hollowed out luffas with half of an upcycled plastic water bottle inside. Use them as a pencil holder, vase, planter pot or anything else you can think of. What would you put in yours?

I sewed these scrubbers with a terry cloth backing and an elastic band for easier use. The edges are crocheted with cotton yarn. They are perfect for personal and home use. How would you use them?

In 2021 I started growing luffas organically in East Texas. They grow so well here that I have had to get creative with them and decided to start selling what I make.
