Dear 2021,
I thought you would be a bit kinder than your predecessor, but you weren't.
You were challenging, complicated, and felt brutal and cruel at times.
You stretched me beyond what I thought was possible and kept pushing even when I thought I may break.
When you arrived, I was filled with optimism and hope, and as you departed, you left me with a devastating blow and your final challenge for me to face.
I am not sorry to see you leave. You made me feel like I was on a rollercoaster and could never quite find my footing or feel like I was standing on solid ground, but you did leave me with a few gifts, and for that, I am grateful.
You brought me clarity, reminded me that courage, tenacity, and loyalty are some of my superpowers. You strengthened my resolve and reinforced who and what is truly important to me.
I am unsure if you were trying to get the best out of me and remind me of my strengths or break me down and if it was the latter, you failed.
I am saying goodbye to you and moving forward with hope, courage, faith, and love. I am more committed than ever to being the best version of myself that I can be and help support, encourage and be of service to others to be the same. I am more resolute in seeing, spreading, and sharing optimism, light, compassion, kindness, and understanding because we all need it.
So I say farewell, and as I step into 2022, I will surrender to this next phase with grace, relinquishing control, and having faith as it's the bravest thing I can do.
