OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS
our of our grandkids were playing with a miniature train set, and the yond grands were arguing over an engine. When sur eight-year-old grandson began to intervene, his six-year-old sister stated, "Don't worry about their business." Wise words for
It's good to stay out of others' business when doing so could make matters worse. But sometimes we need to prayerfully get involved. In his letter to the Philippians, the apostle Paul provides an example of when to do so. Here he urges two women, Euodia and Syntyche, "to be of the same mind in the Lord" (4:2). Apparently, their disagreement had become so intense that the apostle felt compelled to intervene (V. 3), even though he was imprisoned (1:7).
Paul knew the women's argument was causing disunity and taking focus away from the gospel. So, he gently spoke the truth while reminding them that their names were written "in the book of life" (4:3). Paul wanted these women and everyone in the church to live as God's people in thought and actions (VV. 4-9).
When you're unsure if you should get involved, pray, trusting that "the God of peace will be with you" (V. 9; SEE V. 7).

When have you recently stepped into an argument or disagreement, and what was the result? How does seeking God's leading affect how you handle conflict?
Dear God, please give me the wisdom to know when to get involved and provide me with the words to say to bring healing and unity.

Get Your Hands Dirty
Hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.
2 TIMOTHY 2:6 LT
The apostle Paul loved to communicate by painting pictures with words.
As a spiritual dad to a young man learning to become a pastor, he liked to make his teaching memorable and meaningful. A life of faith and leadership is like being a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer. A soldier's life is marked by a quest for glory. An athlete is chasing the dream of gold, fame, and honor. The farmer's journey, however, is different. There is no honor and no glory in the field. There is just mud, sweat, and tears. But after lots of hard work, in the right time and in the right season, there is a harvest and the farmer gets to enjoy it first.
Being a man is messy business. We find ourselves with dirty hands from the toil and strife of life. We are working in the muck and yuck of a broken world. There are seasons when it is all sweat and tears. The hardworking farmer knows that the harvest is coming, and he is close enough to the action to be able to appreciate it first. Don't run away from the hard work of being a man. Roll your sleeves up and get mucked in!
God, give me a farmer's heart. Help me understand what season I am in and to trust you that the harvest is coming.
