🚨 PIMPLE PATCH PSA 🚨

Before you slap a pimple patch on every little bump you see… let’s talk about what they’re actually doing. 👀

This client pulled her pimple patch off and, along with it, came the top layer of her skin. 😳

Most traditional hydrocolloid pimple patches are designed to absorb fluid from a surface-level, open or “ripe” pimple.” They can protect the area from picking and keep dirt and bacteria away from an open spot, so they definitely have their place but it’s not on everyone!

If the pimple is deep, closed, cystic, hormonal, or sitting underneath the skin, a patch usually isn’t treating the inflammation happening below the surface.

And when you put an adhesive patch over irritated, inflamed, or already-compromised skin, then peel it off, you can sometimes take that fragile top layer of skin with it, leaving you with redness, irritation, and a compromised skin barrier.

So what should you look for? 👇🏼

If you want to use a pimple patch, I recommend keeping it SIMPLE. Look for a plain hydrocolloid patch with minimal ingredients and without unnecessary fragrance, essential oils, exfoliating acids, or other added “actives” that can potentially irritate the skin.

And most importantly: don’t rip it off. 😂 Gently peel it away, preferably after letting it loosen on its own.

Think of it like this:

🩹 Pimple patch = bandage/protection
🧴 Acne treatment = addressing WHY you’re breaking out

So no, pimple patches aren’t bad across the board. They’re just a tool, not a complete acne treatment.

Sometimes your skin doesn’t need another sticker… it needs to be left alone and properly treated. 💗

Because if your “pimple patch” leaves you with a bigger problem than the pimple itself… we might need to try a different route! We are happy to talk to you about what’s best for YOU🩷🤪✌🏼
