Personally we like lotions/creams better than sprays because there is less waste, but sometimes a lotion can be so thick it’s hard to spread and can leave a white cast. Did you know that those dryer sheets we all grew up with are primarily made of polyester, and coated with chemicals and synthetic fragrances? There’s a better way to soften clothes. Wool dryer balls! They last a really long time (around 1,000 loads) and help separate clothes while drying to reduce static cling and drying time. Like a little scent? No problem. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the dryer balls (make sure to give them time to dry so they don’t transfer on clothes). When they’ve come to the end of their life, they are fully biodegradable. Extra bonus – it is SO much cheaper to use dryer balls than dryer sheets because they last for so long!

Yesterday we showed you a super easy (and affordable) swap for plastic sponges. But I can hear some of y'all now ... "what about when I need to really scrub my pans"? Well, we've got solutions for that, too.

🌿 Bamboo pot brushes, some with handles and replaceable heads, are an easy way to give your dirty pots and pans a good scrub. They last a super long time, and when the bristles are done, they can be composted.

🌿 A bamboo pot scraper is the handy-dandy tool you didn't know you needed. It easily – and gently – works away baked on foods, even in hard to reach corners. This baby will also last a really long time, and can be composted when it's done.

🌿 Copper scrubbers are like old-school stainless steel scrubbers but better because they won't rust. And they also resist mold and stinky odors.

🌿 Loofah sponges are great gentle scrubbers. 100% plant based and biodegradable, these are great options to pair with your Swedish dishcloth.

We pride ourselves on giving y'all as many options as we can, because we know everyone has different likes and personalities. But we think there's plenty of good eco-friendly cleaning options here that EVERYONE will like!

Ok, don't be grossed out. We aren't asking you to dig through your trash (although some people do!). Simple pay attention to what you are throwing away (and recycling). Maybe write it down as you toss it out. You can do this for a few days or even a week to help you see more clearly what you are throwing away, and then you can look at your list and decide what is the easiest thing to start with. Perhaps you notice you are tossing out a lot of plastic water bottles or plastic bags – that's a super easy thing to swap with reusable water bottles and bags. Maybe you throw away a lot of yogurt cups – that's a harder one to replace (unless you plan on making your own yogurt). A trash audit helps you evaluate what feels possible, and gives you a starting point. Set yourself up for success, and as always, start small! 💚
