Let’s clear the air, because some “advice” out there is straight up misleading:

• “Don’t wash your starter locs.” False. Your scalp still gets dirty, sweats, and produces oils. Starter locs need gentle cleansing to stay healthy.

• “Wait 2-3 months for your first retwist.” Nope. Some hair types and starter methods need attention sooner to prevent unraveling or matting in the wrong direction.

• “You need a style when getting starter locs.” No. Starter locs are about building a foundation. Styles come later. Don’t get me wrong you can get styles you just don’t NEED them.

• “You don’t need to take care of your locs as much.” …maintenance is 95% of loc care. Sitting in the chair is only 5%.

• “Everyone with locs experience the same journey.” Nope. Hair type, texture, lifestyle, and genetics make EVERY loc journey unique. Please don’t compare your progress to someone else’s.

Locs are a personal journey, not a one-size-fits-all trend.
