It’s hard to put into words what Dolly has meant to Tennessee women—and to us.

Long before we ever dreamed of Glam Nashville, she showed generations of women that there was nothing wrong with taking up space, dreaming bigger than where you came from, and looking exactly the way that made you feel most like you. She made femininity powerful. She made glamour unapologetic. And beneath all the rhinestones, big hair, and sparkle was a woman whose kindness, generosity, talent, humor, and determination changed countless lives.

For those of us who grew up in East Tennessee, Dolly was more than an icon. She was woven into the fabric of home. Growing up in Knoxville at the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, her presence was everywhere. She taught our children to love books through her Imagination Library. She gave back endlessly to the communities that raised her. And she showed little girls from Tennessee that where you begin does not determine how far you can go.

In so many ways, she paved the way for women like us to build something of our own.

Glam Nashville was created from the ground up, out of both passion and necessity, with a simple belief at its heart: we wanted to help women feel as beautiful on the outside as they are on the inside. Looking back, it’s impossible not to see a little bit of Dolly in that philosophy.

And maybe that is one of the greatest things she gave us: permission to embrace all of it. To be ambitious and feminine. Strong and soft. Smart and glamorous. Humble and larger than life. To never dim our sparkle simply to make ourselves more palatable to the world.

We owe so much to the women who came before us & made it possible for the rest of us to dream a little bigger. Dolly was one of those women in every sense.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the books, the generosity, the glamour, and for always reminding us that being authentically yourself will never go out of style.

You saw the sparkle in all of us—and taught us never to be afraid to let it show ✨
