👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾 Here's 7️⃣ tips on how to get the best results out of your skincare products and routines.

1. Double cleanse. Start off with an oil cleanser to remove make up, dirt, and oil. Then follow with your favorite sudsy cleanser.

2. When cleansing your face massage the product in for at least 2 minutes. This ensures that you're really removing dirt, oil, and bacteria.

3. Apply products according to consistency. Thinnest to thickest. Toners, essence, serum, oils, creams, then SPF.

4. Apply your products when the skin is still damp. This locks in moisture from the water you just used.

5. Let products like toners, essences, and serums dry only partially before moving to the next product.

6. Oils and butters work best on damp skin so don't dry off completely before rubbing them in.

7. Wash your face AT LEAST twice a day. Don't go to sleep with a dirty or make up covered face.

🛑False🛑: oils are bad for your skin

💚True💚: many oils can clog the pores and exacerbate already existing acne issues. Choosing the right oil for your face takes some research and trial and error.

It's important to choose an oil that is non comedogenic, light weight, has some antioxidants, and won't leave a slick heavy feel on the skin.

You also have to take into account your skin type. What works for some may not work for you and vice versa.

My combination skin LOVES sweet almond oil but I have to avoid coconut oil (it's drying AND clogs my pores).

I'm my own guinea pig and my skin has come a LONG way!

Can we talk about African Black Soap (ABS) for a minute? Some hate it, some love it. I LOVE it. It's worked well as a key component in my personal skincare routine. This wasn't always the case though.

I was around 5 when I tried ABS for the first time. I would watch my mom use it on her own face and her skin looked soooo good. I had to try some for myself. HUGE MISTAKE! The burning sensation was almost immediate and continued well into the next day. It felt like I had poured acid on my face then laid out under the sun. Ok, I'm exaggerating about the acid, but my five year old little face was on fire. Although it wasn't the last time I meddled in my mamas things it was the last time I used black soap for about 20 more years.

I decided to try it again because, like many, I had been struggling with acne and had heard good things about ABS and its ability to clear up acne. I tried several kind over the years and none of them worked the way I wanted so I gave up on ABS again. Shortly after I learned to make my own soap and dived into researching different types of soap and the best ingredients to use for different skin concerns. Along the way I learned that not all ABS is created equal. I found one that out performed every ABS I'd ever tried. It didn't dry my skin out. It didn't burn. It didn't leave my skin feeling filmy. It didn't clog my pores or worsen my acne. It ACTUALLY worked without making me feel like I dipped my whole face in lava. My skin felt smoother, looked more radiant, and was staying clear.
