It’s all started with this girl right here.. From kneeling on my knees covered in hair, my client seated on a toilet in a Potter Street bathroom, while on my way to becoming “ The Lori Look “..

A lot has changed since then, but one thing remains the same.

I’m the Motherf**kin Best ..

Yeah. I said it. Cus I can … 💥

It’s been a full year since our Sweet Freedom update .. Such a telling story and a memorable experience. I was proud to create characters representing my home town and black history !

If you are wondering what makes Beauty Union so special, listen……
Beauty Union is a collective of artists who, while on their path, decided to be the best they can be.. It takes more than a decision to be “your” best, and among the best! Yes, we each were born with a gift. But to reach a certain level took hours and days and years of studying, making mistakes, going back to the drawing board, trying again and again and again! You see, learning is forever. We are never to old, to good, to accomplished to be inspired, to be humbled, to be grateful!
I am so blessed to have built a team that loves eachother and helps eachother to stay grounded and in tune. Meg is an important piece of Beauty Unions success and evolution. She is our voice of reason, wise beyond her years. I am so proud of Meggie Sunshine, and am forever in awe and inspired by her dedication to her craft, her team and her clients. She is an asset to the Davines brand and those she shared her knowledge with…. We love you Meg!

Love, Lori G and the..

Meet Old Colony alumna Megan Aguiar (Taylor), Class of 2010, whose journey from our Cosmetology program to industry leadership is a true example of where dedication and passion can lead.

After beginning her education at Lasell College, Megan committed fully to her craft in cosmetology — building her foundation in an award-winning salon before launching her independent career. Today, she serves as an Independent Stylist at Beauty Union in Downtown New Bedford and as a Regional Master Trainer for Davines North America. Since joining the global, sustainable haircare brand in 2016, Megan has traveled nationally and internationally, educating salons, stylists, and fellow professionals while continuing to refine her artistry.

Megan credits Old Colony with shaping her mindset and work ethic. Through hands-on learning and involvement in SkillsUSA, she discovered the value of practice, perseverance, and pursuing skills beyond traditional academics. She also carries lasting inspiration from her shop teachers — Charbs, Hoyle, and Lopes (Parnell) — whose guidance continues to influence her work today.

Her advice to current students: Soak up every opportunity, trust your instincts, and stay open to the unexpected paths ahead — because growth takes time, and mastery never happens overnight.

We celebrate Megan’s accomplishments and the impact she continues to make in her field.

Oh the memories … ❤️

I am pleased to announce this special event taking place at my salon Sunday August 17th at 5 pm. Indira Vanusa Dos Santos is a very special person, and a friend. Not only is she an amazing singer and songwriter, she has released a book of her works that reflect on her life, her story… A message from Vanusa : “After some time away from the stage due to health challenges, I’m excited to officially return with a new and intimate concert series titled ALMA KRIOLU.( Kriolu Soul). Some of you have started to discover new facets of who I am, and now I’m inviting you to join me on this new journey. I’ve been working closely with Raf Reis amazing guitar player and well recognized visual artist Oleandro Garcia to create something unforgettable — a powerful blend of music and visual art, storytelling. In addition we will share a famous Cape Verdean Katxupa, recognized as our traditional dish internationally.Recently, I published my first book, “Rekonstruson Di Nha Identidadi”, which explores the ongoing journey of rebuilding and reclaiming identity. Through poetry and prose, I navigate themes of diaspora, language, memory, and self-discovery.My work—whether through sound or the written word—is a space where I can honor my roots, express my truth, and connect with others on a deeper level. Art, for me, is both resistance and liberation.I’m thrilled to announce that on Sunday, August 17, 5:30 pm the first concert will take place at Beauty Union Salon in New Bedford, a beautiful space owned by Lori Gomes — who is much more than a hairdresser. Lori is an incredible creative soul, an amazing jazz singer and community builder, and I’m honored to open this series in her space.ALMA KRIOLU is more than a concert — it’s an experience, an offering from the heart. Come feel it for yourself.” Event will be held @Beauty Union by: Lori Gomes 08/05/2025
