Do you ever buy hair products from TJ Maxx, Target Amazon, or any other major retailer?
If you answered yes (or no), please keep reading!
I was strolling around TJ Maxx the other day. I was in the aisle with all of the cute organizers and office supplies when I came across the bottle of mousse in the left photo. Out of place, it caught my attention and it inspired me to create this post!
The bottle on the left was at TJ Maxx and the bottle on the right is what I have on my shelf. They are the same product with two different packaging styles. Believe it or not, this is a diverted product.
Products are considered “diverted” if they are sold in unauthorized places or retailers. For example, only salons or authorized retailers like Ulta or Sephora, are authorized to sell professional brand products. If you come across products at a discounted or auction website or store, the product is considered diverted.
Is this bad?
Diverted products can be counterfeit, diluted formulas, or old, expired formulas that may not be safe to use.
Similarly, diverted tools will not meet our professional standards and are not covered under many warranty programs.
This means if you buy products at a supermarket, drugstore, or any other outlet other than a salon or select retailer, I as your professional cannot guarantee that it is an authentic product that will perform as intended.
Are you in danger?
You could be. Products purchased from unauthorized retailers can be contaminated or even counterfeit and can cause irritation or even allergies. I pride myself on the performance and quality of products I offer to my clients. I want to make sure to provide a good product experience which I only guarantee if products are purchased from an authorized source.
Not many people know that this happens in our industry. It's something that can impact not only you but myself, the products, and brands that are being diverted.
Next time you go to purchase your beauty products please think twice about where you are getting them from. My shelves are fully stocked and you can also shop your favorite products through the link in my bio!

I absolutely love when I come into the salon and have the perfect day booked! When it comes to fun vivid colors and my extension guests, yall get me in the groove!
The magic happens when we have some fun upbeat dance music, throwback 90's jams to current pop or hip hop on. I really get vibin'.
I love to be able to chat with my clients and enjoy our time with each other. I don't like to overbook or double book myself so we both have a fabulous experience and you get the hair or your dreams.
What is your favorite part of the salon experience?

This is so important!
We want to protect our hair as much as possible. This is one way to ensure minimal damage when using heat. Using heat protection when blow-drying and before a hot tool is also super important.
If you apply a heat protectant before blowdrying, a lot of the product is being used up by the process of blow-drying. To ensure your hair is still protected when using a hot tool, reapply your heat protection.
Good heat protection for blow drying is a serum, oil, or a leave-in conditioner with heat protection included. When looking for heat protection for hot tools, reach for a lightweight oil or aerosol spray. We don't want to use anything wet on our dry hair!

Do you double up on heat protection?

Let's talk sew in extensions!
Sewing in wefts of hair is one of the oldest methods around when it comes to extensions. Weft extensions have been around for a long time but their popularity has skyrocketed over the last couple of years.
Seeing all of these “hand-tied weft” extension makeovers are truly stunning! But with that being said, there is a common misconception that has some clients confused when requesting this type of service.
What you're requesting is a sew-in extension service. The confusion comes from the name of the wefts. “Hand-tied” refers to the way that the hair extensions themselves are made, not the way they are installed.
Hand-tied wefts are produced by the hair being individually hand-tied onto a hand-sewn weft by an experienced technician. This ensures that the hair is more strongly secured & does not shed, making the hair extensions last longer. They are also thinner, flatter, & more flexible than machine-tied wefts, allowing the hair extensions to lay closer to the scalp & provide a more natural look & feel.
In addition, it is recommended that hand-tied wefts are not cut to any desired length. Doing so will cause the weft to unravel & cause shedding. Hand-tied wefts are typically already packaged into smaller widths & installed accordingly.
Machine-tied wefts are exactly as they sound. Loose hair is fed through a machine & sewn together, creating a track. Machine-tied wefts are usually thicker & a little bulkier than hand-tied wefts, but are sturdier & can handle many different types of installation methods. They are packaged as one long weft & designed to be cut with minimal shedding into the desired lengths needed for the installation. The wefts are produced by using an industrial sewing machine to attach hair to the seam.
Which one is for me?
Just like with any other form of extension work, the canvas that you are starting with and what the end goal is to determine the best method for the results you are looking to achieve.

Life of a hairstylist:
8:30 AM: Get to the salon while chugging my latte.
9:00 AM: Start client number one, yesterday’s towels, and drink #2.
11:00 AM to 4:00 PM: A chaotic blur. How many clients did I have? How much water did I drink? Did I even eat anything?
5:00 PM: Finish my last client. Clean up the bowls, bottles, brushes, and towels from the day. Zone out. Close up shop.
6:00 PM: Get home finally. Realize I’m starving and, in fact, did not eat anything at work. Make dinner, feed the family, and clean up.
8:00 PM: Put my son to bed.
8:30 PM: Reply to the 20 messages from clients I missed throughout the day.
9:00 PM: Bedtime.
It's a lot of work when you’re on your own behind the chair. I take on the role of owner, manager, receptionist, stylist, cleaning lady, mom, and fiancé.
It's 100% worth it to do what I love and provide the best experience possible for my amazing clients! ♡
