Kitt McDonald, widely known as Kitt Shapiro, is an American author, businesswoman, and the only child of the iconic entertainer Eartha Kitt and businessman John William McDonald. Born on November 26, 1961, in Los Angeles, California, she spent decades working closely alongside her mother, managing her public performances, recording career, and eventually acting as her primary caregiver until Eartha Kitt’s passing from colon cancer in 2008. To preserve her mother’s historical legacy, she honors their exceptionally close relationship through her lifestyle brand, Simply Eartha, and by managing her mother’s estate. She is also the author of the poignant 2021 memoir, Eartha & Kitt: A Daughter's Love Story in Black and White, which explores themes of complex identity, racial dynamics, and the enduring bond they shared.
