Marble & Milkweed
🌿 botanical perfume 🌿 skincare 🌿 tea 🌿 www.marbleandmilkweed.com Marble & Milkweed is inspired by the poetry inherent in any well-crafted thing.
It's also brought to you by the cool, smooth skin of my clawfoot bathtub in the kitchen on Rivington Street, in New York City's Lower East Side, where the healing powers of water serve both as refuge and as muse. The scientific name of milkweed's genus is Asclepius, named after the Greek god of medicine and healing. In Hindu mythology it is believed that the universe was created by a god drunk on the milky white juices of the plant. Today, milkweed is the primary source of food for the monarch butterfly. It's my hope that the precious nectars you'll find here will likewise nourish you into winged resplendence! Disarmingly analog and made carefully by hand, Marble & Milkweed products are designed to simplify the way you care for yourself. Our deep commitment to sourcing organic and fair-trade ingredients sets us apart in a market increasingly crowded with so-called "all-natural" options. Our products are gentle and contain no harsh synthetic additives or artificial scents. We are conscious of the impact our packaging has on the environment and strive to reduce unnecessary packaging. We use glass bottles and jars, and compostable paper packaging, all of which can have lives beyond their first use. Taking good care of yourself truly goes hand in hand with caring for the planet. Marble & Milkweed is proud to support the work of Butterfly Project NYC with a portion of our profits.

Running errands around the neighborhood on the eve of October 🍃 dropping off a fresh batch of our lavender + hinoki pillow mists at KinKa on 7th St. (pop by for all your houseplant & gifting needs!) and then stopping at the garden to pot up some extra New York ironweed plants to share with our neighbors down at Corlears Hook Park. Such a beautiful autumn evening.

organic jojoba oil grown on a family farm in Arizona infused with heirloom wood-smoked lapsang souchong from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province. the gently smoky base of our botanical perfume no. 1, where notes of cardamom, black pepper and nutmeg dance alongside a rich jasmine heart over vanilla, sandalwood, peru balsam and benzoin resin. all plants, no petrochemicals. a scent for an afternoon tucked away in a cozy teahouse while the rain comes down outside 🫖

Spell to Be Said Upon Departure
by Jane Hirshfield (The Lives of the Heart, 1997)
What was come here to do
having finished,
shelves of the water lie flat.
Copper the leaves of the doorsill,
yellow and failing.
Scarlet the bird that is singing.
Vanished the labor, here walls are.
Completed the asking.
Loosing the birds there is water.
Having eaten the pears.
Having eaten
the black figs, the white figs. Eaten the apples.
Table be strewn.
Table be strewn with stems,
table with peelings of grapefruit and pleasure.
Table be strewn with pleasure,
what was here to be done having finished.
