Nubian Hair Studio
Nubian Hair Studio is a creative, professional space dedicated to the care of natural hair.
Nubian Hair Studio, a full-service salon in the heart of the Bronx, was simply created out of a love for and deep understanding of natural hair. After noticing that an increased number of Bronxites—both men and women—were looking for alternative hair styling options without leaving their borough, Nubian Hair Studio was established, soon becoming a destination for those with natural hair styles. The stylists at NHS—who all boast natural hair themselves—practice what they preach consistently: that proper maintenance, education and diligence is key when dealing with hair and its care. Dedicated to meeting the needs of a steadily-growing natural hair population in New York, NHS provides over twenty years’ of stylist experience and specializes in natural hairstyles, braids, locks, and twists, in addition to relaxers, color, and weaves. Proving that you can indeed find competent, professional hair care in the Bronx, Nubian Hair Studio is a one-stop shop for a plethora of natural hair care needs.
Before it's a loc, it's just loose hair, and sometimes that hair isn't ready yet. Installing locs on hair that's breaking or dehydrated sets the whole journey up to struggle. We treat and moisturize first, then begin. Follow if you're starting your loc journey.
Locs don't actually grow faster than loose hair. With loose natural hair, growth and retention are two different things because you're combing out what sheds. With locs, the hair that would normally shed stays right there inside the loc, so growth and retention become the same thing. Comment "LOCS" if you want to know what actually keeps them healthy as they grow.
There's a difference between low maintenance and no maintenance, and locs are definitely not the second one. Skipping maintenance doesn't save you time, it just creates bigger problems later. Locs reward consistency. Follow if you're serious about your loc journey.
You'd be surprised how many clients tell me nobody ever taught them this. Braiding and banding before shampooing preserves the integrity of the loc and minimizes bunching and slippage. The clients who see the best results aren't the ones with the most expensive products, they're the ones who stay consistent. Save this if you have locs.
Most people think their scalp is dry. It's actually clogged. What gets mistaken for dandruff is usually product buildup from layering heavy products without properly cleansing in between. Your scalp is the soil, and if the soil is clogged, nothing grows the way it should. Comment "SCALP CHECK" if you want me to break down what a clarifying wash routine actually looks like.
Dry hair lacks oil. Dehydrated hair lacks water. Most people reach for oils and butters when their hair actually needs moisture first, and putting oil on dehydrated hair just seals the problem in. Water first, oil second. Save this so you remember the order next time.
Oiling your scalp every day isn't nourishing it, it's suffocating it. Your scalp already makes its own oil, and piling more on top creates buildup that blocks your follicles. Water first, oil to seal, not saturate. Follow for more of what nobody tells you about caring for your locs.

This weekend in Los Angeles has been nothing short of extraordinary, and our hearts are so full we can barely put it into words. 🎓We gathered in this beautiful city to witness one of the most incredible milestones our family has had the honor of celebrating. Our beloved Denyse receiving her Doctorate in Nurse Practice from Massachusetts Global University. Dr. Denyse, you did it!
Words cannot fully capture how immensely proud we are of you. The dedication, the sleepless nights, the sacrifices, the unwavering commitment to your passion for healing and caring for others. Every single moment of your journey led to this breathtaking achievement. Watching you walk across that stage was a moment none of us will ever forget.
But beyond the ceremony, beyond the caps and gowns and the flash of cameras, what made this weekend truly magical was the people we shared it with. Our tight knit, beautiful, ride or die friend group showed up in full force, and being surrounded by so much love, laughter, and genuine joy reminded us all of just how blessed we are to have each other.
Los Angeles gave us sunshine, good vibes, and the perfect backdrop for memories that will live in our hearts forever. Here’s to you Dr. Denyse you are a healer, an inspiration, and our forever source of pride. We love you endlessly!
M.A.D.A.C.S forever. To God be all the Glory.
