This story is bigger than one burger. 🍔🥩
JBS is the world’s largest meat processor and one of the most powerful companies in the global beef supply chain.
According to reporting cited by Reuters, JBS co owner Joesley Batista met privately with President Trump on August 20 and pushed for a lower import tax on Brazilian beef. Reuters noted that it had not independently verified the reported meeting.
Days later, the Trump administration formally expanded the United States beef import quota by 300,000 metric tons, roughly 660 million pounds, allowing additional lean beef trimmings to enter under the lower quota tariff for a limited period. The White House said the goal was to increase supply and reduce beef prices for consumers.
Then another development raised questions.
Beginning September 3, the European Union suspended meat imports from Brazil after officials said Brazil had not provided sufficient guarantees that its production complied with EU rules governing antimicrobial use in livestock.
None of this by itself proves wrongdoing or that the policy was created specifically for JBS.
But when one of the world’s largest meat companies reportedly meets with the president shortly before a major beef trade decision, consumers are going to ask who benefits and where their food is coming from.

MUAMMAR GADDAFI: THE LIBYAN REVOLUTIONARY WHO CHALLENGED THE WEST

Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi was born in 1942 near Sirte, Libya, into a poor Bedouin family. In 1969, he led a military coup that overthrew King Idris and established the Libyan Arab Republic.

Gaddafi later developed his own political philosophy, which he called the Third International Theory, outlined in The Green Book. He rejected both capitalism and conventional state socialism, presenting an alternative based on what he described as direct popular democracy and economic self-management.

Under his rule, Libya nationalized its oil industry and used oil revenues to expand public services, including housing, healthcare, and education. He also promoted Arab unity before increasingly embracing a broader vision of African unity and became an influential, though highly controversial, figure on the continent.

But Gaddafi’s legacy remains deeply contested. His government was authoritarian, political opposition was heavily suppressed, and his regime was accused of serious human-rights abuses. In 2011, amid the Libyan uprising and NATO intervention, his government collapsed. Gaddafi was captured and killed on 20 October 2011.

More than a decade later, debates over Gaddafi continue—not simply because of the man himself, but because of the political ideas, African projects, and foreign-policy choices associated with his rule.

Was Gaddafi a revolutionary who challenged an unjust global system, an authoritarian ruler, or both?
