The Art of Perfumery by IFF

What does sunshine smell like? ☀️

Meet Solarkoss, a concept developed for the 2025 Royal College of Art (RCA) x IFF Future of Scent competition.
Created by RCA student Jack Kaplan, Solarkoss explores how fragrance and light could work together to recreate the feeling of sunshine during the darker winter months.

Inspired by research into seasonal wellbeing, the concept pairs a wearable fragrance with a reusable illuminated bottle designed to evoke the warmth, comfort and emotional benefits associated with sunlight.

IFF Junior Perfumer Omkar Chandorkar, then Perfumer Trainee, collaborated with Jack to develop a solar scent built around luminous floral notes, warm spices and rich balsamic facets. Inspired by golden skies, sunsets and the emotions associated with sunny days, the fragrance was designed to evoke happiness, relaxation and mindfulness.

For nearly a decade, IFF has been at the forefront of nurturing the next generation of scent professionals through its pioneering partnership with ISIPCA.

Launched in 2016, this master’s-level program stands as a benchmark in fragrance education, uniquely combining artistic vision, scientific excellence, and hands-on industry immersion.
More than a program, it is a strategic commitment: to actively shape the future of perfumery by training those who will define it.

Since its inception, over 180 students from more than 40 countries have joined this journey. Each brings a distinct perspective, reinforcing our belief that the future of fragrance lies in diversity of talent, culture, and thinking. Today, our alumni contribute across perfumery creation, marketing, and business roles worldwide, actively shaping the industry from within.

Last week, we unveiled our 2025 Do More Good Report, a reflection of how we turn ambition into action across IFF.

From breakthrough delivery systems like ENVIROCAP™, designed with biodegradable materials, to nature-inspired innovation rooted in biodiversity and responsible sourcing, the report highlights how we are rethinking fragrance creation, from ingredient to application.

It also brings to life the power of collaboration. Partnerships such as our work with Reservas Votorantim in Brazil open new pathways to explore biodiversity while contributing to its preservation, connecting creativity more closely to origin.
