Published by NorthEast Books & Publishing, Newark, NJ. Self published version by the AYCNP. More than six years of field work as well as extensive research went into the ideas behind this book. It represents the lifework of many teachers and other professionals who daily assist children with ADHD in school and in other settings. Parents:

* TV and video games can affect a child's attention span.

* Violence in the media affects the emotions and mental health of some children.

* Diet does make a difference, andn although it does not necessarily cause ADHD, positive adjustments in diet will often result in a reduction of symptoms of ADHD symptoms in many children.

* Children need nurturing, love and consistent emotional attachments. Children with ADHD or who are at risk benefit from one-on-one attention from parents, teachers, and mentors.

* Children need a sense of belonging and approval.

* Many children with ADHD are visually oriented; art helps many children with ADHD to balance and focus. Consider giving your child art lessons.

* Children need quiet time, away from music, television, movies, video games, and other electronic stimuli.

* Parents should address the spiritual and emotional needs of children.

* Symptoms resultant of child abuse can mistakenly be misdiagnosed and treated as ADHD. Teachers:

* Teachers should adjust their teaching style for children with ADHD. Not all children fit into the same mold and not all children learn in the same way. Children with ADHD are often hands-on and highly visual. Some are over-responsive to music and may benefit from positive, calming music, rather than music that agitates.

* One-on-one attention is of importance for children with ADHD and for children with some of the symptoms of ADHD. Medication can almost always be avoided by following the guidelines in this book.
