Interest in the Portuguese in Newcastle CA community History of the hall
The lot for the Newcastle Portuguese Hall was donated by Manuel L. and Mary Z.
Perry, brother and sister. It was built in 1918 by the Portuguese community. This community is made up of Portuguese groups called lodges. The lodges make up what is called the Newcastle Portuguese Hall Association. This association also helps to maintain the hall. The hall gained historical status with “state Point of Historic interest” on November 14th 1981. The Newcastle hall was then placed on the “national Register of Historic Places” on March 25th, 1982. Information about membership
