Dear Ryan,
About eleven years ago you walked into GBS Berlin as a client. It didn’t take long for us to realize you were the kind of guy we wanted to see everyday. So ten years ago, I hired you. I thought I was getting a fourth barber, but here’s what we got:
We got a guy that almost immediately became the GM because of his quiet leadership.
We got a guy that spent hours, then months, then years honing his craft to such an extent that he became the most skilled technician I’ve ever seen.
We got a guy that is the first to show up when there is a need of any kind, typically with an extra set of work gloves and the perfect tool for the job.
We got a guy who treats his clients like members of his family that are only in town for a week and they’re getting married and this has to be the greatest haircut they’ve ever gotten. Every client. Every time.
We got a guy who just nonchalantly made a call and suddenly we were backstage at Warped Tour cutting hair for the bands and their crews. For years.
We got a guy who, when he talks about Jenna, reminds every husband in the room what it looks like to honor your wife.
We got a guy, who somehow levels the temperature of every room he walks into. I’ve never seen him escalate tension. It’s a superpower.
We got a guy who’s looked me in the eyes on more than one occasion to tell me what I needed to do or I might lose everything. And then he showed up, gloves in hand, ready to help me do it. And we’ve done it. Every damn time.
We got a guy that sticks to his guns, but never stops being kind.
We got a guy we all trust, a guy we all love, a guy we all respect.

Ryan, I write this post through a cascade of tears as I sit here this morning recounting what you mean to all of us. We can never thank you enough for making our lives and this barber shop immeasurably better than they could ever be without you.

So, to my coworker, my GM, my wartime consigliere, my saver-of-fingers, my friend, my brother… Thank you. I love you.

Good morning everyone. As my man has been telling y’all for years, today is the busiest day of the year here at the world headquarters of Garrett’s Barber Shop at 176 Newington Rd. W., Hartford, CT. Today’s lineup includes hits from yesteryear, tight fades by , two-steps by and some judgy glances from our director of HR, .and.shaves . A cameo by Dan Martinez is on the schedule as well as the 2 PM release of the Sirius radio channel, which, of course will be streaming live at GBS. Stop down if you’ve got an appointment or if you just feel like warming up by the fire. If you bring us any beverages, just remember I like my coffee like I like my women - tall and Irish.

Don’t forget to go easy on your personal care professional today. Your week might be winding down, but they’re in the final minutes of game seven. So be nice to your barber, your stylist, your nail tech, your brow artist, your massage therapist, your esthetician, and your waxing professional. We’re in the weeds, folks. Same goes for our cousins slinging drinks and food tonight. Tip ‘em well and don’t be that guy.

To all clients: Please take note of our new location. We are located directly to the left of Stop & Shop in the Elmwood Plaza on Newington Rd, West Hartford. Our permanent sign is not yet installed, so please do not look for our sign, as you will not see it. The permanent address is 176 Newington Rd (Suite D), West Hartford.

We’re aware that sometimes the GPS will lead you to another location. The plaza shares the same address (176 Newington Rd) with all business in the plaza. So it’s important to pay attention to the suite address. Ours is D, as listed on all pieces of correspondence, our website, and all social media platforms. While your GPS may cause some confusion, please trust that we know where we’re located and following our directions is your best bet.

To assist in that, here are some places we’re NOT located:

A)Rebellion Barber Co.
B)Our previous Newington location
C)The gas station in our parking lot
D)The brick state building on Newington Rd.
E)Any other Stop & Shop plaza
F)The cognac aisle at Crazy Bruce’s
G)Literally anywhere else

Please pay attention and be on time. This is the busiest week of the year and our capacity to handle scheduling interruptions is limited at best. Missed appointments will be rescheduled for AFTER the holiday. Please avoid calling us to ask where we are. Our voicemail will tell you what I just told you, nearly verbatim.
