At 8 PM EDT, I’ll be teaching another Sensory Safe Certification class and helping beauty professionals understand how we can better serve autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals.

Every time I teach this class, I’m reminded that something as routine as a haircut can feel completely different to the person sitting in our chair.

When we understand the why behind behaviors, learn how to recognize sensory needs, and change the way we approach the experience, we have the opportunity to turn fear into safety and build genuine trust.

That is what Creating Trust, Not Trauma is all about.

Our Train the Trainer in Massachusetts was one of those moments for me.

We walked into this training with 8 potential educators—eight people willing to learn, be challenged, step outside of their comfort zones, and prepare themselves to carry this mission forward.

And they showed up. 🔥

Watching them learn, ask questions, practice, grow in confidence, and begin finding their own voices as future educators was something special.

But somewhere in the middle of teaching them, I was reminded of something too.

I was reminded of my purpose.

This has never just been about teaching a class. It’s about changing an industry. It’s about helping beauty professionals understand that a haircut should never come at the expense of someone feeling safe, respected, or understood.

It’s about Creating Trust, Not Trauma.

And now, we’re preparing more people to carry that message into salons, barbershops, classrooms, and communities that we may never personally reach.

That part gets me. 🥹

Because when you teach someone else to carry the mission, the impact becomes bigger than you.

To our 8 potential educators: you did AMAZING. I saw the nerves, the breakthroughs, the passion, the growth, and the moments when things started to click. This is only the beginning.

And to the team I get to stand beside while doing this work—thank you. 🖤

Massachusetts, you reminded me why I said yes to this journey in the first place.

I know exactly why I’m here.

Every single day, we meet kids who walk through our doors feeling all kinds of things about a haircut. Some are excited. Some are unsure. And some are carrying really big feelings: fear, overwhelm, sensory challenges, or just not knowing what to expect. And the truth is, every one of those kids deserves to feel safe, understood, and supported exactly as they are.

That’s what matters most to us. Always.

That’s why this feels so special to share. We are so proud to introduce the release of our very own fully illustrated, published storybook: “Be Brave Today: Charlie’s Haircut Day.”

It’s a gentle, simple way to help kids see what a haircut looks like before they’re in the chair. To make it feel more familiar. Less overwhelming. A little more within their control.

In the coming weeks you’ll find the story in our playroom book nooks, and we will have copies available for purchase to keep at home as well.

But this isn’t just for our salons, this is for our whole community.

We know we are just one small piece of a much bigger support system surrounding our kids. There are so many incredible therapists, providers, and offices who pour into them every single day, helping them grow, regulate, communicate, and feel confident in their world.

This isn’t just about haircuts. It’s about showing kids that they are safe here. That they are seen here. And that we’re going to meet them exactly where they are, every single time.

It’s been a while since I have posted but just know I’m still here doing what I love! I got the privilege of meeting this little guy tonight and giving him a haircut! It’s the first time he has gotten a haircut without tears. I am so thankful for every one of you who sends me families to work with.
I’m so thankful for when parents trust the process knowing that the goal is to create trust and not trauma for my little friends!!
