If these walls could talk… ✨
Our building at 601 York Street has lived more than one life. Before it became Pout Studio, it was home to a residential recovery program. Go further back, and York Street carries its own lore: in Newport’s “Sin City” years, brothels known as night houses operated on York St.
We haven’t found evidence that this building was one of them. But knowing the history of the street makes us think about the people who have passed through this neighborhood, each with a story beyond what anyone could see from the sidewalk.
Today, these rooms are a place where beauty professionals build businesses of their own and help clients feel cared for and confident. Different chapters, same belief: everyone deserves dignity, possibility and room to begin again.
Here’s to honoring the history and writing something beautiful next. 💋
