I consider a good facial cleanser the starting point for any skin-care routine. A cleanser should do a number of things; 1) remove oily makeup, environmental toxins, and other dirt 2) reduce the amount of moisture lost, 3) avoid damaging the skin, and 4) leave your skin looking brighter in appearance, not dull and dry. Our Cloud 9 Clarifying Cleanser does all that.

We all remember witch hazel from our younger days. Witch hazel is extracted from a woody plant and is almost always tincutred in denatured alcohol, which is drying to the skin. The witch hazel used in our cleanser is alcohol-free! So, you get all of the benefits of this amazing botanical without harmful side-effects. Witch hazel cleanses the skin while offering soothing, anti-inflammatory properties.

A number of herbs and oils have also been added to help with hydration and anti-aging. I will highlight just a few of them.

Blueberry seed oil, in particular, is a powerful antioxidant that is high in omega-3 and omega-6. Together, these fatty acids (known as vitamin F) help to moisturize the skin and regulate transepidermal water loss, leaving your skin soft and hydrated.

One of my favorite botanicals to use in skin-care products is yarrow. Yarrow has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, resulting in a soothing and revitalizing affect on the skin. We harvest our own yarrow that is grown in a chemical-free environment. (As a side, did you know that yarrow makes an excellent ground cover when mowed; it is drought-tolerant, native, and the perfect plant for lawn replacement.)

You might be surprised to see the addition of aspen in the Cloud 9 Clarifying Cleanser. I chose to include this unique botanical because it naturally contains salicylic acid (a great anti-inflammatory ingredient for the face), is skin-smoothing, and naturally assists in the preservation of the product.

Today's highlight is the Misty Meadow Face Moisture.

I formulated this dewy, easy-to-apply cream to not only provide long-term anti-aging benefits, but to go unnoticed as you go about your daily routine. It will not feel heavy on your skin or cause an oily appearance.

The Face Moisture is assisted by hyaluronic acid and peptides which reduce inflammation, even out skin tone, and minimize the appearance of wrinkles Aloe, comfrey, shea butter, and other oils and botanicals offer soothing results.

Ashwaghanda helps replenish the skins ability to produce its own natural age-defying nutrients and leads to smoother, tighter, and clearer skin over the long-term.

Noni oil, a light textured oil, offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and is rich in Vitamins C and A. Horsetail is especially beneficial for boosting collagen production, among other things. Our organically grown and harvested yarrow helps with skin-regeneration and reduces skin redness.

Spotlight of the day -- Dandelion Renewal Mask. Masks offer quick results by refining pores, drawing out impurities, increasing hydration, and evening out skin tone.

The Dandelion Renewal Mask, in particular, is intended to gently draw toxins from the skin while giving it an extra boost with specific botanicals. Dandelion is antibacterial and antifungal making it a great addition for detoxifying the skin (FYI: It is also nourishes our pollinators in the spring!). We’ve added Vitamin C and spirulina (blue-green algae) for their intense anti-aging properties and other botanicals to help soothe and pamper. Ashwagandha helps replenish the skin’s ability to produce its own natural age-defying nutrients.

To use, add 1 tsp to your favorite cleanser (the Cloud 9 Clarifying Cleanser pairs perfectly) (or milk, yogurt, aloe juice, etc.) until it forms a thick paste. Apply and leave on for 20 minutes. Then, rinse and pat dry. Treat your skin with a serum or face cream (or both) afterwards, such as the Raindrop “C” Serum and/or Misty Meadow Face Moisture. The mask can be applied 2-3x a week.

Today's featured product is our Raindrop "C" Serum. The serum can be used after your cleansing routine and before a moisturizer. It is gentle enough to use morning and night but a once-a-day application is sufficient to assist in your journey towards better skin.

As we age, our skin loses its ability to product collagen and hyaluronic acid. The serum contains peptides (amino acids), Vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid that help boost collagen production, tighten the skin, improve elasticity, and hydrate at the deeper tissue levels. Rosemary and turmeric help even the skin tone and improve the skin's glow and luster.
