What to Do After Your Plastic Surgery Consultation

https://youtube.com/shorts/hjtb5dQc6Vc

Hello everyone. I’m Dr. Sam Speron, a board-certified plastic surgeon in the Chicago area.

So, you’ve just had your plastic surgery consultation — now what? A lot of people aren’t sure what to expect next, so let’s break it down. In some practices, you might feel pressured to book surgery before you even walk out the door. That’s not how we operate.

My philosophy has always been to give patients time to think, process all the information, and make a confident, well-informed decision. We’ll check in once or twice, but that’s it. I’ve even had patients call me back a year or two later when they’re ready, and that’s completely fine with us.

For some people, it’s about timing or budgeting, and I completely understand that. If cost is a consideration, always be upfront with my staff — we’re here to work with you. Occasionally, we have last-minute cancellations or schedule openings, and when that happens, flexible patients can often take advantage of special discounts. It never hurts to ask.

One of the most common questions I get is how soon you can schedule your surgery. The answer depends on the procedure and the time of year. We tend to book several months in advance, especially for more involved surgeries, but every so often, we can fit someone in sooner.

If you have a specific time frame in mind — for example, before a big event or vacation — it’s always best to plan ahead and secure your date early. The bottom line is this: your consultation is just the first step. Take your time, ask questions, and choose what feels right for you.

Plastic surgery should never be rushed. The best results come from thoughtful planning, open communication, and working with a team that respects your comfort every step of the way.

Your consultation should feel like clarity!

A good plastic surgery consultation should help you understand your options, risks, recovery, expected results, and whether surgery is truly the right choice for you.

You should never feel rushed, confused, or pressured.

At Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC, patient education is a major part of the process because confident decisions come from clear information.

Liposuction is about shape, not weight loss!

Liposuction can help contour stubborn areas that do not respond well to diet and exercise.

Common areas may include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, or other localized pockets of fat.

It is not a substitute for weight loss, but for the right patient, it can help improve proportion and create a more balanced silhouette.

At Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC, we focus on realistic goals and natural-looking contour.

Kids and Tweens Are Damaging Their Skin With Overcomplicated Skincare Routines

https://youtube.com/shorts/IgPQH6EvICo

Hello everyone. I’m Dr. Sam Speron, a board-certified plastic surgeon in the Chicago area. Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more young patients—kids and tweens—who are overdoing it with their skincare routines. It’s great that they’re taking an interest in caring for their skin, but too many products at too young an age can actually cause long-term damage.

The biggest issue I see is product overload. Many young people are layering exfoliants, retinols, serums, and toners—sometimes ten or more products every day. Their skin barriers simply aren’t ready for that. When you bombard the skin with too many active ingredients, it becomes irritated, dry, and inflamed. Over time, that can lead to chronic sensitivity, redness, breakouts, and even contact allergies that last for life.

The number one culprit behind these reactions is fragrance. Fragrance, whether natural or synthetic, is one of the most common causes of skin irritation and allergic reactions. Once your skin becomes sensitized, you can react to that ingredient for years to come.

For kids, tweens, and even teens, the goal should be simplicity. You don’t need a ten-step routine. All you really need is a gentle cleanser, a good moisturizer, and daily sunscreen. That’s it. Keeping your skincare basic helps your skin stay balanced and strong while preventing irritation and long-term damage.

I always remind parents and young patients that skincare should be fun, but it should also be safe and appropriate for your age. Less truly is more. Start simple, protect your skin barrier, and your future self will thank you for it.

Loose skin is not a failure!Loose skin can happen after pregnancy, weight loss, aging, or genetics. It does not mean you did anything wrong. It means your skin and tissues changed, and sometimes no amount of exercise can fully reverse that.Plastic surgery can help address excess skin and improve contour when lifestyle efforts have taken you as far as they can.At Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC, we help patients understand what can realistically be improved.

Freedom from feeling self-conscious starts here!

July is a perfect time to think about what confidence means to you.

Maybe it is wearing fitted clothes without focusing on your abdomen.

Maybe it is looking less tired in photos.

Maybe it is finally asking about the procedure you have been considering for years.

At Dr. Speron Plastic Surgery, SC, we help patients explore their options with honesty, experience, and care.
