I read this scripture and had to pause because… why did nobody ever explain it like this to me?
“But let your Yes be Yes and your No be No…”
I used to think that just meant “be honest.”
But it’s deeper than that.
This is about clarity, boundaries, and integrity.
Saying yes when you mean yes.
Saying no when you mean no.
Not over-explaining. Not people-pleasing. Not switching up to make others comfortable.
Because let’s be real…
how many times have we said “yes” just to avoid an awkward moment?
Or said “no” but then softened it so much it turned into a yes anyway?
That’s where confusion, burnout, and resentment start creeping in.
This verse is literally saying:
👉 You don’t need a paragraph to justify your no.
👉 You don’t need to convince people to accept your yes.
👉 You don’t need all the extra.
Clear is clean.
Anything extra usually comes from pressure, fear, or trying to control how we’re perceived.
And that part really got me… because I never looked at it as a spiritual principle before.
Being clear isn’t harsh.
Being direct isn’t rude.
It’s alignment.
I’m learning that peace comes from standing on what you say—without all the extra talking.
Just something to sit with today 💭
