Lather and Soul

This weekend was two back-to-back markets, a whole lot of sunscreen, + approximately 27 gallons of sweat. ☀️🥵

One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that not every event has to be your biggest event to be a successful one. Sometimes success is making new connections, introducing someone to your products for the first time, or simply ending the day better off than if you’d stayed home wondering whether Shopify was going to send you a notification.

But this weekend was also one of those weekends that fills your cup right back up.

The kind that reminds you why you keep showing up, packing the tent, loading the car, hauling bins, + spending long days out in the heat. The kind that reminds you there are real people behind every order number; people who stop to smell a soap, ask thoughtful questions, share stories, + choose to spend their hard earned money with a small business.

More than anything, I’m grateful. Not in the cheesy “support my dream” kind of way, but in the genuine “I still can’t believe I get to do this” kind of way.

And next week, for the first time in FOUR YEARS, I’m taking an actual vacation. Not a working vacation. Not a “I’ll still be answering emails” vacation. An actual vacation, + with my handsome fella. 🥰

The shop will remain open while I’m away, but any orders placed during that time will ship once I return. Thank you for giving me the kind of business that occasionally allows me to step away, recharge, + come back inspired.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be counting the days for the next week + a half.

Every June, brands roll out rainbow logos + Pride collections. Some mean it. Some don’t. (Looking at you, Target. 🙄)

But since it’s Pride Month, I want to say something a little more meaningful than “Happy Pride.”

As a bisexual woman in a heteronormative relationship, I know firsthand that not every q***r person is immediately recognizable as q***r. Our identities don’t disappear just because they aren’t visible to everyone else. Maybe that’s part of why visibility matters so much to me.

I think it’s important for people to know where the businesses they support stand. Not because it’s trendy, not because it’s June, + not because it drives sales. Because for LGBTQ+ people, visibility + safety still matter.

I want people to know that when they shop with me, they’re supporting someone who genuinely believes LGBTQ+ people deserve to be safe, celebrated, + protected; not just in June, but all year long.

I don’t support this community because it’s good business. I support it because it’s my community too. 🌈
