Little Oasis Spa
Customized Facial Treatments for your unique skin. Anti-Aging, Rosacea, Acne and Combination Skin treatments to bring out your best looking skin.
Little Oasis was established and licensed a Maryland State Board Spa in 2007 and was renovated 2011 with heated floors, waiting room, powder room, and treatment room with temperature control heated bed and state of the art facial machine including a skin scanner. I’m Nhan Fitzpatrick and I love helping people look and feel better about their skin. For 13-years now, I’ve had the joy of seeing people’s appearance change, and the smiles it brings to their face. Every treatment begins with a thorough examination of your skin. Using a state of the art skin scanner, you get to see your skin under a different light. I will explain to you what you’re seeing, and why we’re going to treat your skin in a particular way. It’s not just lying down and slapping a mask on. But unfortunately, that’s what most people get at most spas. I only use the highest grade products available – even down to the organic sheets. We're Seeing Beautiful Skin Changes
Most clients have heard they should use retinol. Fewer know what it is doing, or why some formulas change skin and others only irritate it.
Retinol is a form of vitamin A. Skin has to convert it before it can work: retinol becomes retinaldehyde, and retinaldehyde becomes retinoic acid, the form your cells actually use. Once it is active, vitamin A tells aging skin to behave more like younger skin.
Cell turnover speeds up, so dull surface cells shed. Collagen-supporting signals increase, which softens the look of lines over time. Oil and pigment activity normalize, so texture and tone look cleaner. That is the real job of vitamin A. It is not a surface polish.
The problem with ordinary retinol is the conversion. Each step loses potency, and many formulas push strength by irritating the barrier. Mature skin already has slower turnover, thinner barrier function, and less collagen. Inflammation makes that worse, not better.
Osmosis skips the weak first step. Renew MD and Correct MD use retinaldehyde, also called retinal, delivered in pharmaceutical-grade liposomes. Retinaldehyde converts directly to retinoic acid, so it is stronger than regular retinol and still gentle enough for daily use. The liposome carries it in without stripping the barrier.
Renew MD is the stronger age-fighter.
It uses Osmosis’s highest-potency liposomal retinaldehyde, with nine collagen-targeting ingredients and several antioxidants. This is the serum for skin whose main issue is lines, crepiness, and loss of firmness.
What it adds beyond vitamin A alone:
Peptides, including palmitoyl tripeptide-38, plus asiaticoside from centella and caprooyl tetrapeptide-3, to support the look of collagen and elastin
Niacinamide and a low level of lactic acid for brighter, smoother tone
Sodium hyaluronate and glycerin for hydration and plumpness
Ectoin, thioctic acid, and cloudberry seed oil for barrier and antioxidant support
Correct MD is the age-and-tone serum.
Same retinaldehyde technology, aimed at skin where aging shows up as dullness, uneven tone, and pigment along with lines. It pairs the vitamin A with nine collagen-targeting ingredients and antioxidants, and it is the better fit for dry, aging, or pigmented skin that still needs renewal without inflammation.
What changes on aging skin
Turnover improves first, so skin looks clearer and less flat. With consistent use, lines look softer and texture looks firmer because the collagen signals have time to work. Pigment looks more even as niacinamide and steady cell renewal replace the blotchy response mature skin often has to sun and stress. This is remodeling, not a peel. Results build over weeks.
How to use them
On clean skin, apply 1–2 pumps morning and/or evening. Spritz an Osmosis activating mist and massage in. Follow with your other serums and a moisturizer, and take any extra down the neck and chest. Daily SPF still matters. These formulas are sun-stable. They do not replace sunscreen.
When you come into the spa for your next customized facial treatment, if you haven't started with these products yet, we can help determine whether Renew, Correct, or a short rotation of both belongs in your protocol.
See you soon.

Worth checking before you go to sleep
You often hear a lot about protecting your skin from the daytime sun, but a major new study reveals that the light inside your bedroom at night might be doing a different kind of damage—to your heart.
A massive study tracking over 11,000 adults found that sleeping in a room with even a tiny amount of ambient light (anything over 3 lux, which is as dim as a sliver of moonlight) physically alters the structure of your heart.
Over time, nighttime light exposure forces the heart walls to become thicker and stiffer, reducing its pumping efficiency and increasing long-term cardiovascular risks.
The Beauty Sleep Disruption
When your eyes detect light while you sleep, it triggers your "fight-or-flight" nervous system and puts the brakes on melatonin.
While melatonin is famous for helping us fall asleep, it is also one of the body's most powerful antioxidants. At night, your skin relies on melatonin to repair damage from UV rays and pollution, build collagen, and fight premature aging. When nighttime light blocks melatonin, your heart stays stressed, and your skin misses its vital midnight renewal window.
Create a True "Beauty Rest" Sanctuary
To protect both your cardiovascular health and your glowing complexion, your bedroom needs to be a dark oasis. Here is how to audit your space tonight:
* Go Face-Down: Keep your smartphone turned over on your nightstand so unexpected notification flashes don't disrupt your sleep cycle. Put it on Do Not Disturb and airplane mode will help.
* Tape the Tech: Cover those tiny, piercing blue and green LED standby lights on your TV, humidifier, or air purifier with a small piece of black tape.
* Switch to Amber or Red: If you need a nightlight for safety, skip the white or blue bulbs. Switch to a low-level amber or red light near the floor. These warmer, longer wavelengths don't trick your brain into thinking it's daytime, keeping your heart calm and your melatonin flowing.
True wellness always starts from the inside out. Tonight, turn off the lights, protect your heart, and let your skin do what it does best: heal.

In A Good Way or Bad
Why the protein you eat shows up on your face — and everywhere else.
Skin is still living tissue. It is built and repaired from amino acids. If those are incomplete, scarce, or poorly digested, your skin will not look and last as well as it could.
What skin is made of
Dried dermis is roughly 70% collagen. Elastin gives rebound. Keratin forms the barrier, hair, and nails.
Collagen is about one-third glycine plus proline and hydroxyproline. Fibroblasts can only assemble that matrix if the amino acids and cofactors (vitamin C, copper, zinc) are present.
When they are not, synthesis drops and breakdown enzymes stay active: thinner epidermis, looser dermis, slower repair.
High-quality vs. “some protein”
Quality means a complete essential amino acid profile and high digestibility.
Eggs, whey, dairy, fish, poultry, and most meats score high. Collagen peptides supply glycine/proline/hydroxyproline for skin and joints — they are not a complete protein (no tryptophan; low in several essentials). Use them as an add-on.
Plant proteins work if you combine sources across the day, but it's more difficult for most people. Isolated incomplete sources, chronically under-eaten, will not support collagen turnover the same way.
What low or low-quality protein does
Thinner skin and less collagen/elastin. Slower wound and post-procedure healing. Weaker barrier (dryness, flaking). Loss of snap and more fine lines. Brittle nails and thinning hair.
In frank deficit: fragile “cellophane” skin and delayed closure of small injuries. Skin complaints often cluster in people eating well under recommended protein — protein is rarely the only cause, but it is often the missing piece.
Your overall health
Same amino acids, different organs. Low intake cuts lean mass and recovery, worsens insulin handling, weakens immune cells, and slows repair after training or procedures.
After menopause, dermal collagen already falls about 30% in the first five years. Low protein stacks on that loss. Skin is a downstream readout of systemic supply.
How much, and from where
0.8 g per kg prevents frank deficiency. It is not an optimum for aging skin, training, or healing. Most active or midlife adults do better at 1.2–1.6 g per kg of goal weight, spread across meals (about 25–40 g per sitting).
Pair collagen peptides with a complete protein and vitamin C — vitamin C is required to stabilize the collagen helix. Consistency beats one high-protein dinner after a low-protein day. More protein does not grow extra collagen.
When you combine high quality protein nutrition consistently with high quality consistent skin treatments and daily care -- you are set up for better skin health.
Be consistent. You only have one YOU.
We look forward to seeing again soon.

Well, Summer isn't over yet...
And this week's weather certainly shows that. Upper 90's a few days.
But if you start to notice something (it happens for many every single year): pigment, tightness, and that “tired” look aren’t random. They’re the summer bill coming due.
Even when Summer ends, your skin's still paying for it.
July and August are hard on skin in this area: UV on the commute, AC then humidity, pool chlorine, late nights, and extra cortisol from travel and packed calendars. The damage that shows up weeks after Labor Day is predictable — barrier disruption, leftover pigment, dullness, and that slightly puffy, “tired” look even when sleep was decent.
What summer did (so you stop guessing)...
- UV + heat → melanin stays switched on. Brown spots and uneven tone show up 2–6 weeks later, which is now.
- Chlorine, sweat, and makeup in humidity → barrier lipids get stripped. Skin feels tight, then oily, then reactive.
- Cortisol stays elevated when sleep and routine slip. That delays repair, increases inflammation, and makes collagen slower to rebuild. Same mechanism we covered last time — it shows on the face.
- Dehydration under the surface → makeup sits worse, fine lines look sharper, and products “stop working.”
So how can you help your body and skin to reset, rebalance?
The steps to take:
1. When you come in for your next facial treatment, we'll get a real read, not a guess. We'll see you skin barrier, pigment, congestion, and inflammation so the facial is built for *this* skin, not last year’s.
2. Repair the barrier first. If the barrier is broken, aggressive products make pigment and redness worse.
3. Address pigment while it’s still fresh. Post-summer discoloration responds better now than in November. A few facial treatments before November, will help.
4. Drop the cortisol load on the body, not just the face. Make time to breathe and relax -- to start the day, mid-day, and before winding down for bed.
5. Keep the home care simple. Osmosis is built for the skin-body loop (repair, pigment, barrier) — we only add what the analysis says you need. More products is not a protocol.
Those are the steps. We're here to help. See you soon.

A Simple Plan To Reverse It
Most people notice their skin looking duller, more reactive, or slower to heal and assume it’s just aging or the wrong product.
It’s often cortisol.
When stress stays elevated, cortisol breaks down collagen, weakens the skin barrier, increases inflammation, and slows repair. The result shows up as:
Dull, tired-looking skin.
Increased sensitivity or redness.
Breakouts that appear under stress
Lines and texture that seem to deepen faster than they should.
Your face is simply reflecting what your nervous system is carrying.
Beyond exercise and and proper sleep, what actually moves the needle. The combination that works:
1. Professional treatments that calm and repair
Focused facials that reduce inflammation, strengthen the barrier, and support recovery — not just temporary glow.
2. Targeted, consistent skincare
Osmosis MD products formulated to repair barrier function and calm reactive skin at the cellular level.
3. Adaptogens that lower the stress signal
- Rhodiola Rosea — supports resilience under acute stress and mental fatigue
- Ashwagandha — helps normalize cortisol over time
These two are part of the core supplements we recommend for clients dealing with stress-related skin changes.
Simple next step:
If your skin has felt “off” the past few weeks, this is the window to address both the surface and the root -- and give your body ongoing support.
Schedule a rejuvenating facial this month and we’ll match it with the right Osmosis products and adaptogens to support your specific situation.
We're hear to help.

You Are What You Eat Eats
That old expression, "you are what you eat," is not entirely true.
As the food industry has become more and more commercialized and manipulated, the key to choosing the healthiest foods is to look at what you eat EATS.
1. Beef: Grass & Herbs vs. Corn & Grain
Natural Diet (Grass & Herbs): Cows raised on diverse pastures accumulate up to 5x more Omega-3 fatty acids and significantly higher levels of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)—a healthy fat associated with immune support and metabolic health. Their meat is also richer in Vitamin E and beta-carotene.
Conventional Diet (Corn & Grain): Grain-finishing rapidly increases total fat and saturated fat while reducing Omega-3s and antioxidant levels, skewing the delicate Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio.
2. Chicken: Foraged Greens & Insects vs. Commercial Grain
Natural Diet (Pasture-Foraged): Chickens allowed to roam and peck for greens, seeds, and insects produce meat with substantially higher Vitamin A and Vitamin E levels, along with elevated Omega-3 content and lower overall saturated fat.
Conventional Diet (Soy & Corn Pellets): A strict grain diet yields a higher proportion of inflammatory Omega-6 fatty acids and lower micro-nutrient density in the muscle tissue.
3. Eggs: Pasture-Raised vs. Caged & Grain-Fed
Natural Diet (Bugs & Pasture Greens): Hens forage on live greens and insects, transferring those fat-soluble nutrients directly into the yolk. Pasture-raised eggs contain up to 3–4x more Vitamin D, 2x more Omega-3s, and higher concentrations of lutein and zeaxanthin—antioxidants that give the yolk a rich, deep orange color and support eye health.
Conventional Diet (Standard Grain): Hens fed exclusively grain pellets lay pale yellow yolks with significantly lower Vitamin D, Vitamin A, and antioxidant levels.
4. Fish: Wild Marine Forage vs. Farmed Grain Pellets
Natural Diet (Wild Plankton, Algae & Marine Life): Wild salmon and marine fish obtain their vibrant color and nutrients directly from natural food chains. They offer a superior Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio, higher trace minerals (like zinc and selenium), and natural antioxidants like astaxanthin.
Conventional Diet (Corn, Soy & Fishmeal Pellets): Farmed fish fed grain-heavy diets accumulate higher levels of total fat and Omega-6s, diluting the beneficial Omega-3 density per serving.
It's ironic that the food called "conventional" now is really "unconventional." It's not what the animals were designed to eat -- and as a result -- they are less healthy for us.
And yes, over time, this has an affect on your skin.

Taking a short walk after a meal is one of the simplest, most effective rituals for overall health and skin vitality. Often called a "postprandial stroll," stepping out for just 10 to 15 minutes after eating transforms how the body processes nutrients, turning digestion into an opportunity for restoration.
From a internal wellness standpoint, post-meal walking acts as a natural stabilizer for blood sugar. When food is digested, glucose enters the bloodstream, prompting a spike that requires insulin to manage. By engaging the large muscles in the legs shortly after eating, those muscles soak up excess glucose for immediate energy, blunting sharp blood sugar spikes and reducing systemic inflammation.
Gentle movement also stimulates peristalsis—the natural muscular contractions of the digestive tract—which aids digestion, decreases bloating, and supports a balanced gut microbiome. The beauty benefits of this habit are directly tied to that internal balance. Skin health is deeply connected to gut health and blood sugar stability. Rapid glucose spikes trigger a process called glycation, where excess sugars bind to collagen and elastin fibers, causing them to become rigid and contributing to premature sagging and fine lines. By flattening those glucose spikes through movement, skin elasticity and structural integrity are better preserved.
Plus, light walking boosts microcirculation, delivering fresh oxygen and nutrients straight to skin cells while assisting the lymphatic system in flushing out cellular waste. The result is a healthy, natural glow, less sluggishness, and clearer, more resilient skin over time.
Daily 10-minute post-meal walks are simply the most powerful thing you can do for your health.

An Overlooked Mineral
Iodine is a quiet hero in your journey to radiant, youthful skin and vibrant energy. And far too many people are deficient in it.
Iodine’s Foundational Role in Overall Health and Energy
Iodine is primarily known for its critical part in producing thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). These hormones act like your body’s internal conductor, regulating metabolism—the process by which your cells convert food into energy.
Energy and vitality: Adequate iodine keeps your thyroid humming, supporting steady energy levels, warmth, and efficient calorie use. Deficiency can lead to fatigue, feeling cold, sluggishness, and slower metabolism—common complaints as we navigate midlife and beyond.
Broader benefits: It supports brain function, hormone balance, immune health, and even helps protect against oxidative stress in various tissues.
When your thyroid is well-supported, everything feels easier: more pep for daily movement, better resilience, and that inner spark that shines through in your skin and demeanor.
Iodine and Skin Health: Glow from the Inside Out
Your skin—the body’s largest organ—loves iodine too. Thyroid hormones (powered by iodine) drive skin cell regeneration and turnover. Low levels often show up as dry, flaky, rough, or puffy skin, slower healing, or a dull complexion.
Key skin perks...
Hydration and renewal: Supports healthy cell turnover so skin stays smoother and more supple—ideal for that post-facial radiance that lasts.
Protection and calm: Topical or systemic iodine (in appropriate forms) can activate pathways like Nrf2, offering antioxidant defense against UV damage and soothing inflammation—perfect complement to natural spa rituals.
Wound support and clarity: Historically used for minor skin issues; it promotes healing without harsh disruption.
For facial-loving clients, think of iodine-rich nourishment as an internal “facial” that enhances collagen support, reduces dryness, and helps maintain that dewy, resilient look we all adore as we age gracefully.
Simple Ways to Embrace Iodine Naturally
Focus on food-first approaches that align with whole-body wellness. It's our recommendation to not use processed salt enhanced with iodine. Use salt such as REAL or Celtic, and get iodine from foods.
Sea vegetables like nori, kelp, or wakame (great in salads or sushi).
Seafood such as cod, oysters, or shrimp.
Dairy, eggs, and iodized salt (in moderation).
Pair these with movement you love (gentle walks, yoga, or resistance sessions) and consistent skin care—cleanse, hydrate, protect—to amplify results. Many people notice improved energy and skin texture when addressing subtle deficiencies through diet and, if needed, thoughtful testing with a provider.
Balance is key. Too little causes issues; excess (especially from supplements without guidance) can disrupt thyroid function. If you suspect low levels—perhaps from fatigue, dry skin, or family history—chat with your doctor about testing before making big changes.
