It's Massage Monday Again!!
Today's massage modality (or type) is reiki. Reiki is the art and science of channeling the universal life force to promote spiritual, mental, emotional and physical healing. I do not heal you, but rather I am the instrument with which the universal higher power uses to help you. The literal translation from Japanese is ghost v***r. I use my hands, usually just above your body (so you can stay clothed if you'd prefer) and use the reiki to help you.
This modality is very different from traditional massage modalities, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Today is Native American Day (In California and Nevada)! This day celebrates the indigenous tribes that first lived here. Native American tribes had various forms of massage. Some did a type of acupuncture, some used hot or cold stones, some did rituals with oils, sage burning, energy work or they will assist you on your meditation journey.

Are you a fan of Middle Earth and Hobbits? Hobbit Day is today! It is the birthday of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, two of the main hobbit characters from The Lord of the Rings. There also is a Tolkien Week, which starts today and goes through Saturday September 28. Do you have a favorite Hobbit? I was always partial to Pippin but I think that was more to do with the actor that played him. And who doesn't love Sam? I do love young Bilbo's adventure as well.

It's Massage Monday! Today we are talking about Hot Stone Massage. During a hot stone massage, smooth, flat, heated stones are placed on specific parts of your body. The stones are usually made of basalt, a type of volcanic rock that retains heat.
Anyone who is experiencing muscle tension and pain, insomnia, or stress may benefit from a hot stone massage. If you have a chronic condition that causes pain, talk to your doctor to see if a hot stone massage is a good option for you.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage or MLD is a light, skin-stretching massage that helps promote the movement of lymphatic fluid out of the swollen limb. MLD is specifically focused on the lymph vessels to help the flow of lymphatic fluid. The lymphatic system does not have a heart like the circulatory system so I act as a heart to help pump your lymph fluid back towards lymph nodes.
