According to the report Advanced Basal Cell Carcinoma: Epidemiology and Therapeutic Innovations, more than 5.4 million cases of nonmelanoma skin cancer were treated in the U.S. in 2012 alone.

While melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer, with the number of deaths expected to increase by nearly 5 percent this year, nonmelanoma skin cancer is still a great concern.
