Summer Solace Tallow

In April 2014, I started Summer Solace Tallow with one purpose: to create a nourishing tallow balm for babies, children, and families living with eczema, psoriasis, and sensitive, compromised skin. Drawing from my background in ancestral nutrition, California cuisine, holistic cooking, and natural perfumery, I believed that truly exceptional skincare could begin with the same philosophy as exceptional food: know your farmers, know your ingredients, and honor the process.

Before I made my very first batch, I knew exactly where every ingredient would come from. Fresh pasture-raised suet from Stemple Creek Ranch along Tomales Bay. Estate-grown extra virgin olive oil from Séka Hills, cultivated by the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. Golden calendula grown and extracted in Northern California.

Pure Unscented became my very first prototype.

I spent months developing a gentle dry-rendering method that preserved the integrity of the suet while creating a balm that felt silky rather than greasy, substantial yet elegant. I carefully refined the balance of each ingredient until the formula absorbed beautifully without feeling oily or waxy. The result was a simple blend containing the naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12 found in tallow, alongside the nourishing qualities of olive oil and calendula.

More than twelve years later, Pure Unscented remains one of our bestselling and most beloved creations.

Mountain Song Body Oil

Mountain Song is perhaps my most personal creation.

I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, to parents whose lives were shaped by the mountains. My father is Sedang, an Indigenous mountain tribe from the Central Highlands of Vietnam. During the Vietnam War, he served as a Green Beret translator for the U.S. Army before being forced to leave his homeland without ever saying goodbye to his mother. My late mother came from the mountain regions of the Philippines, and her family later immigrated to San Francisco.

Growing up among Alaska’s vast wilderness gave me a lifelong connection to stone, snow, solitude, and the silent strength of the mountains. That landscape has always felt familiar, as though it lives within me.

Mountain Song is my tribute to that ancestry. It opens with the mineral scent of wet stone, softened by honeyed honeysuckle and creamy gardenia, grounded in smoky vetiver and sacred Indian sandalwood. The formula blends our regeneratively raised suet tallow with organic jojoba, borage, rosehip, argan, castor oil, and our signature calendula extract to nourish both skin and hair.

This is not a sunny, floral body oil. It is earthy, mineral, contemplative, and deeply connected to place. Mountain Song is an invitation to carry the stillness, resilience, and quiet beauty of the mountains wherever you go.

Our Jasmine Mist is a true expression of this extraordinary flower, showcasing its cool, animalic, deeply romantic aroma. Sourced from Madurai, India, the “Nectar City,” jasmine blossoms are traditionally harvested by hand at dusk, when their fragrance is at its peak. Worn in women’s hair and woven into garlands, their luminous scent lingers beautifully on the skin.

Traditionally cherished for centuries, jasmine is known to uplift the spirit, inspire confidence, ease stress, and awaken romance.

We pair precious Jasmine Sambac Absolute with delicate French magnolia flower, blended into alkaline water with golden jojoba and olive squalane to refresh, lightly moisturize, and energetically perfume the face, body, and hair.
