Sometimes a person comes into your life when you least expect it. Sometimes someone comes into your life playing drinking games at your future wife/mother of your children’s pseudo punk house over drinking games in Oakland and helps shape the next ten years of your life. Sometimes you hire someone along the way and their first day at the shop one of your favorite people/barber/employee dies, and despite all that crazy s**t they stick around and completely fill the void it causes and supports everyone who’s hurting. sometimes the first and second people fall in love and don’t tell any of their customers they’ve been dating for three years, STORY OLD AS TIME. Gabe and Rachel are a rare duo, and I couldn’t be happier for them in their love and their next chapter at their new two chair . It’s a rare thing we have over here at Dax Lee’s and everyone who’s been a part of it is so so very special, and though I’m losing two of the best barbers in Oakland this week I’m filled with gratitude for the time and loyalty Gabe and Rachel have given to the shop sand the contributions that will live here as long as the shops are around. It goes deeper than you’ll ever know reader, but we’re still here if you need us and want to see what they helped build. We’re still here too, but check out what they have going when you get a chance cause I know it will be ABSOLUTELY LOVELY. It’s all love out here man, and for all you owners who think you own the people that work for you you’re fu***ng stupid. ALWAYS ROOT FOR THE PEOPLE THAT HELPED YOU GET WHERE YOU ARE NOW, AND DON’T BE WEIRD WHEN THEY WANNA DO IT FOR THEMSELVES. Anywho, I’ll be downtown more if you need me. Scenes from the shop, because these moments don’t last forever. I could post a million haircuts, and I’ve been called out on it but whatever. It’s nowhere near the only thing that makes these shops special, times like what’s in this photo do because they’re so fleeting. It represents past and resent and future, it captures everything a shop has in my opinion. Things change, and people grow. So do shops, because they’re live and breath just like any human does. There are good days and there are tough days, but the worst day in a barbershop is never bad. Trust me on this, because if you’ve been with us for a while you know that we’ve had some monumentally hard things happen around here. But somehow after a decade we’re still here, and we’re gonna be here for a long long time for ya whatever the shop looks like. If you’ve made it this far, thanks and we love you.

IT’S BACK AND IT IS BIGGER THAN EVEE FOLKS. We’ve teamed up with to bring you our 5th annual CHILI COOK OFF AT SNOW PARK IN DOWNTOWN OAKLAND. On June 13th we’ll be taking over that little park over at lake Merritt to bring you some hot competition from some of the best chefs in Oakland to benefit the homeless action center and .oakland.punks.with.lunch ! We’ll also have live music from and the mighty !!! We’ve also teamed up with the fine people over at to bring you a local vendor market THAT TOU WOULDN’T BELIEVE. You should ride that hog down if you’re feeling frisky because our day one chili cook off dawgs over are sponsoring free motorcycle parking on Harrison street between 19th and Thomas L Berkeley way! WE’RE DOIN IT LIVE, BE THERE MAN.

We’re doing it again, because last year as a collective we gathered and distributed over 400 toys to the disadvantaged youth of Oakland and the East Bay. We’ll be taking toy donations from today, Thursday the 13th of November to Friday the 12th of December for distribution at the .oakland.punks.with.lunch December care village. LETS MAKE THE SEASON THE REASON FOR THE CHILDREN.
