Blonding dark Latina hair requires patience and respect for the process. There’s no rushing through the lift just to get to the color you want.

For a gray like this, I needed a really clean blonde underneath. Any remaining warmth is going to affect how that gray looks once it’s applied, so the blonding itself is just as important as the final color.

Once we had that clean canvas, I was able to create this soft, dimensional gray that blends beautifully with the natural gray already coming through her hair.

And through all of that, the integrity of her hair still comes first. Getting the color is one thing. Making sure the hair still looks and feels good afterward matters just as much.

Let me make one thing clear: this is not an anti-frizz post.

We celebrate frizz over here. Frizz gives us volume, movement, softness and sometimes exactly the little bit of chaos a style needs. Frizz can absolutely be our friend.

But for some of us? It can also be the thing standing between us and the style we’re actually trying to achieve.

That’s where I like to look at smoothing a little differently.

Keratin Complex NKST isn’t something I offer because I think textured hair needs to be “fixed,” and the goal isn’t to make every curl or wave perfectly smooth. I look at it as another tool I can use to make your hair feel a little less overwhelming.

Maybe humidity makes it difficult to maintain your style. Maybe your blowouts take more work than you’d like. Maybe you love your curls but want a little more manageability. Or maybe you simply prefer a smoother finish. All of those are valid.

The conversation is less about “How do we get rid of your frizz?” and more about “How do you want to wear your hair, and what would make living with it easier?”

Because at the end of the day, I’m not here to tell you how your hair should look. I’m here to help you figure out how to make it work for you.

And if that means keeping the curls, keeping a little frizz, and taking some of the fight out of everything else? We can do that too.

I’ve had the pleasure of taking care of these cool cuties and their curls for the past three years. They were some of the first to trust me with their hair at the beginning of my business, so naturally I had to go digging for the old pictures.

And yeah… I’ve grown. A LOT.

I always look back at my work and make mental notes. What could I have done differently? What could I refine? What do I want to try next time? Sometimes something worked beautifully and I want to know why. Sometimes I know immediately what I’d change.

That’s honestly how a lot of growth happens behind the chair. You take the classes and learn the techniques, of course, but then you have to actually use them. Pay attention. Practice. Adjust. Keep learning your craft instead of getting comfortable with what you already know.

Looking at these pictures three years apart, I can see all of that practice staring right back at me — the shapes, the color placement, the curl definition, the finishing.

I was proud of my work then, and I’m proud of it now. I’m just a hell of a lot better at it now. 😂

And three years from now? I better be looking at these pictures saying the exact same thing.
