🏖️It may be the perfect time to be at the beach, but let’s be safe!🏖️

The sun and UV rays are at their peak in summer; so while it feels amazing to take in all its warmth, just remember that the radiation from the sun is a proven carcinogen. 😱

☀️Here are some tips to protect your skin from UVA/UVB rays:

⭐️Wear sunscreen SPF 30-50 & reapply every 2 hours or after you get out of the water.

⭐️Wear a wide brimmed hat to protect your face

⭐️Wear sunglasses - Sun damage to the eyes can lead to early formation of cataracts

⭐️If you are very prone to burning, it would be best to wear UPF protective clothes/swimwear for optimal protection

⭐️Be mindful that the sun’s rays are their strongest around 12pm-4pm. Having a beach umbrella or something that provides shade is helpful for that time of the day.

⭐️Make sure you visit your dermatologist and get scanned yearly for any “mysterious moles” 🤗

⭐️Make sure to hydrate inside & out! The sun is a big source of dehydration.

⭐️It may be the end of Acne Awareness Month, but the Acne journey continues⭐️

While nutrition & supplements contributes to the skin’s health, there are lifestyle factors that can as well.

Here are some examples of Lifestyle Triggers that can cause breakouts:

⭐️Stress: indirectly causes an increase in androgens which would trigger excess oil production in the skin.

⭐️Fabric Softener/Dryer Sheets: fragrance in general is a skin sensitizer so it is not recommended; although these items may leave laundry feeling soft, they also leave a waxy residue on the fabric which would incur congestion.

⭐️Sleep: medical studies show a link between lack of rest and high cortisol levels which would in turn cause inflammation in the body & an increase of oil production in the skin.

⭐️Dirty Pillowcases: changing a pillowcase more frequently is highly suggested as the combination of natural oils (hair/skin), hair products, and more prove to be just as filthy as a toilet seat.

⭐️Smoking/Vaping: the smoke/vapor can be the root cause of excess sebum production due to enhanced androgens from the chemicals. 

⭐️Hormone Imbalance: while nutrition & making changes to your lifestyle can cause hormonal imbalances (ex: starting or pausing use of hormonal birth control); conditions such as Hashimoto’s, Endometriosis, and Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (previously PCOS) are more complex to navigate. However, most cases can lead to a manageable solution.
