Your spray tan results begin with your prep—and how well you prep dramatically affects how dark, even, and long-lasting your tan will be.
Complete your prep the DAY BEFORE your appointment. Same-day exfoliating, shaving, or waxing can interfere with how the solution absorbs and may leave your tan lighter or less even.
THE DAY BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT:
• Shower and thoroughly exfoliate your entire body
• Pay extra attention to dry areas, including elbows, knees, ankles, hands, and feet
• Use an exfoliating mitt or washcloth with an oil-free exfoliant
• Avoid bar soaps, oil-based products, and moisturizing body washes that may leave residue on your skin
• Shave or complete other hair removal
• Schedule waxing, manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages before your spray tan—not afterward
• Do not apply self-tanner after exfoliating
THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT:
• Arrive with clean, completely dry skin
• Do not apply lotion, body oil, perfume, makeup, or other skincare products
• Do not wear deodorant. Deodorant can react with the spray tan solution and temporarily turn your armpits green.
• Wear loose, dark clothing and loose-fitting shoes
• Avoid tight leggings, bras, socks, or anything that may rub against your developing tan
• Bring or wear dark undergarments if you plan to be sprayed in them
Please don’t complete your main shower, exfoliation, shaving, or waxing the day of your appointment. Giving your skin time to settle overnight helps create the smooth, even canvas needed for your best spray tan results.
A beautiful spray tan is a team effort. I’ll provide a customized, carefully applied tan, and your day-before prep helps ensure the finished result looks its absolute best.

Cancer Update:
Recovery from surgery has been going well, and now we’re moving on to the next steps.
This Wednesday, September 9, I’ll have a PET scan. The results will help guide my treatment plan and determine whether chemotherapy will be part of what comes next.
For now, I’m continuing to take everything one appointment and one step at a time. Thank you for continuing to pray, check in, and support me through all of this. It means more than you know.

Ellie? Okay. You need the briefing before you meet her.
She’s a Marine veteran, business owner, educator, school-counseling grad student, and mother of four, which should give you some indication of her tolerance for chaos. It’s high. Her tolerance for incompetence is considerably lower.
A few things you should know:
* Come prepared. If you’re supposed to know something, know it. If you don’t know, say you don’t know. She can work with that. What she cannot work with is confidently making s**t up.
* Details matter. If she said the index finger is teal and the ring finger is cream, do not switch them. She will notice. Immediately.
* Don’t make her repeat herself. She probably gave you the instructions, specifications, dimensions, timeline, exception to the timeline, and the reason for the exception three conversations ago. There’s a nonzero chance she remembers exactly what she said.
* She asks “why?” for real. It’s not necessarily an argument. She wants to understand the reasoning. If the reasoning doesn’t hold up, though, congratulations—you’ve just accidentally scheduled a debate.
* Do not mistake kindness for softness. She cares deeply about people, especially kids, and will put an extraordinary amount of effort into building systems that give them a fair shot. That same quality means she has very little patience when adults create unnecessary barriers for them.
* She will turn an idea into an operating system. “Maybe we should have students do weekly check-ins” can become a form, binder system, scheduling protocol, data-collection process, instructional slide deck, and written policy before lunch.
* There will be a spreadsheet. Eventually.
* She likes things to have a reason. “Because we’ve always done it this way” is probably the worst possible answer you can give her.
* If something can be made more efficient, she’s going to find it. Then she’s going to document the process so everyone else can do it too.
* She has standards for aesthetics AND function. Something cannot merely work. It needs to be organized, consistent, polished, and—apparently—have the correct spacing around the damn hyphen.
* She’s extremely protective of her people. Family, students, clients, coworkers she trusts—once you’re in that circle, she’ll go to bat for you. But if you’re the reason one of those people needs someone to go to bat for them, this briefing has now become relevant.
* She handles a frankly unreasonable number of things simultaneously. This can create the misleading impression that adding “one little thing” to her plate is harmless. Proceed carefully.
* She doesn’t need you to agree with her. She does need you to be able to explain your position intelligently.
* If she discovers she’s wrong, evidence works better than ego. Bring receipts.
* She has a strong bulls**t detector. Unfortunately for bulls**t, she also asks follow-up questions.
And perhaps the most important warning:
Do not tell Ellie something can’t be done unless you are absolutely certain it cannot be done.
Because there is a very real possibility that she will figure out how to do it, build a template for it, write instructions for everyone else, and then ask why nobody was doing it that way in the first place.
(Oh, and I’m dealing with breast cancer right now - just a little more to focus on)

A quick update on my cancer treatment and recovery:
I had surgery on July 31, and recovery has been more difficult than I anticipated. I’m still dealing with a lot of pain, and even a short period of activity leaves me completely exhausted. I’m taking things day by day, listening to my body, and allowing myself the time I need to heal.
I’m incredibly grateful for everyone who has checked on me, supported my family, shared Ellie Mack Beauty, placed an order, or booked an appointment. Every bit of support has meant so much during this time.
As I’m able, I’ll continue offering spray tan appointments. If you see an open appointment time on my booking calendar, it’s available, and I would truly appreciate your booking. Your appointments and online orders help support my business while I continue recovering and moving forward with cancer treatment.
Thank you for your patience, encouragement, prayers, and continued support.

Wish me luck! Surgery check in is at 6:30 in tomorrow morning. I’m on my way to do my last spray tan before surgery. If you are looking to book a spray tan appointment, I will be back to spraying next Friday! All of my beauty products are able to be purchased anytime, regardless of surgery timelines.
Thank you so, so much for the outpouring of support I received from this community. Catch you on the flipside!

I got my nails done today, so that’s one more thing checked off my pre-surgery list.
I’ve been going to Nails Spa Village Regency for years, and Tony is always my go-to. I used to do nails, so I’m very particular about the details, sanitation, and overall quality of the service.
Their pedicures are done in individual, non-plumbed basins, which helps reduce the risk of bacterial and fungal contamination. Sanitation matters to me, and it’s clear that it matters to them too.
Tony is incredibly detail-oriented and makes sure everything looks right before I leave. The entire team provides phenomenal service, and you can tell they genuinely enjoy working together and taking care of their clients.
Great work and great service deserve a great tip. I tip at least $20 for a manicure or pedicure, and I tipped Tony $40 today because my color and design requests were a little extra—and he did them perfectly.
I STILL HAVE SPRAY TAN APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE BEFORE MY SURGERY THIS FRIDAY.
Ellie Mack Beauty will be closed for a week beginning July 31, so this is your last chance to book before I’m out for recovery.
